Carver's Weekly Update
Week of Monday, March 27, 2023
Carver Parents/Guardians,
Our students had so much fun during the PTO's Bear Buck Celebration Glow Party. Thank you to our PTO Executive Board and all parents for working to make sure this event was an amazing experience for our students.
As we begin to prepare for the SC Ready test in May, students in grades 3-5 will complete a Text Dependent Analysis Mock Writing prompt on Thursday, March 30th. The information gathered from the results of the writing prompt will help us better understand any potential areas within our students' writing that need to be addressed during the next couple of months. Parents, please help us by making sure students go to sleep on time, eat breakfast, and arrive to school on time.
Fourth grade students will listen to a presentation from the staff at Circle Park regarding the harmful affects/dangers of nicotine within a person's body. This topic is listed as one of our health standards. If you have any questions regarding this presentation, please contact me.
Fifth grade students are in the process of selecting electives for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year at Moore Middle School. The deadline to select courses will be on Monday, April 3 at 9:00 AM. Contact your child's 5th grade teacher if you have questions.
Third quarter report cards will be sent through the mail for parents this week. Parents will also see information regarding a survey that the State Department of Education has requested to be completed by Friday, March 31. Only one survey is needed per household. Please consider completing this survey.
Thank you!
J. Little
Principal

A Snapshot of STEAM Learning at Carver!
Mrs. White's kindergarten class studied frogs and toads in science and height and length in math. They combined their knowledge of the two subjects into an origami frog jumping challenge. Mrs. White helped the students fold their origami frogs, and then students tested to see how many "logs" high or across their frogs could jump. The icing on the cake was finding a real, live toad on school grounds!
Mrs. Dorsey's kindergarten class, along with other classes, received a visit from a former West Florence student this week. Icesiz Davis, Miss Pearl of The Pee Dee for the Miss America South Carolina Organization
