Spring Term - 18th May 2023
Message from the Executive Head Teacher
Dear Parents/Carers
The end of this half term is fast approaching and we have enjoyed a busy week at HJS with much excitement in year 6 with auditions for their show, Aladdin. I know they are looking forward to performing it in July and the children in years 2 to 5 will certainly enjoy watching it!
Next week, year 3 children are very much looking forward to sharing their work with their parents. The showcases are always popular and we know they will be busy events so please do come along if you can.
Don't forget that next week is a shorter week for the children with Friday being an Inset day for staff.
We still have half a term to go and I have noticed a significant number of children who are wearing trainers to school as they have outgrown their school shoes. As you will be aware, trainers are not part of the uniform policy and children need black school shoes for the remainder of the school year.
Have a wonderful end to your half term and I hope the sun shines.
Ms Helen Lockey

Messages from the Office
After School Clubs
Please can you ensure that if you need to collect your child early from an after school club that you have contacted the club in advance to inform them and if necessary obtained a number to call the provider on arrival at the school.
Unfortunately the office are unable to collect children from their clubs so alternative arrangements will need to be made with them direct to bring your child to you.
Jewellery
May we remind you of our uniform policy in relation to earrings.
"Children are not allowed to wear jewellery such as necklaces or bracelets (unless required for medical or religious reasons). They will be asked to remove any during the day. Children can wear a single pair of small, simple stud earrings which must be removed at home before PE/Games lessons".
Please do not send your child into school in earrings which do not conform to our uniform policy.
Thank You
Big thank you to Indigo's daddy (3S) for donating some plants to HJS. The children enjoyed planting these with Mrs Fraser and am sure you will agree, they add a lovely bit of colour to our flowerbeds.
Sports for Champions
I am pleased to let you know that on Wednesday 14th June we have an international athlete coming to HJS to deliver an inspirational assembly followed by a sponsored fitness circuit. This will involve an assembly where the athlete will talk through their journey throughout their career and share the setbacks they were faced with. There will also be an opportunity for the students to ask any questions.
Sports for Champions are a community interest company who encourage everyone to take part in exercise, regardless of their athletic ability. On that note, we are asking for a small donation to sponsor the children during their fitness circuit that they will be completing on the morning of the assembly. Please note, any donations, no matter how small, is very much appreciated.
If we raise a sufficient amount of funds, 60% of the proceeds will go towards the school to enhance children’s sporting education.
I am sure this is going to be a memorable experience for all children!
Year 6 News
6C are really enjoying creative arts week. They have looked at creating an autumnal leaf with chalk.
6GK have enjoyed starting their Art for Creative Arts Week. They have been looking at how to create shades and tints whilst enlarging their leaves. We look forward to sharing with you our final pieces.
School Council Visit
On Tuesday year 6 school counsellors attended Achieving for Children‘s mental health workshop in Twickenham. The day was jam packed with fun activities and useful information for our school’s mental health ambassadors to feed back to their classmates.
