VUHS December 1st, 2023
Principal Message
We have an early release this Wednesday. We will start the morning out with an a high school assembly run by students recognizing many things that students do in and out of school. I am excited to see the whole high school together.
The first games of the season are this week and the audition packets were just put together at the end of last week for the spring musical. We have an international trip meeting for the EF 2025 trip this Wednesday. I love the hustle and bustle of the school year. Hopefully we will see each other in one of the upcoming weeks activities.
Some events that are coming up in the next few weeks are:
- 12/5: JV & Varsity Girls Basketball Scrimmage @ SBHS, 6pm. The bus departs at 4:30pm and JV & Varsity Boys Basketball Scrimmage Home vs. U-32, 5:30/7pm.
- 12/6: Early Release: Students done at 11:30 (Bagged lunch- pick up in lobby)
- 12/6: JV & Varsity Boys Basketball @ Danville, 5:30/7pm. The bus departs at 3:15pm, JV & Varsity Girls Basketball @ BFA Fairfax, 5:30/7pm. The bus departs at 4:00pm.
- 12/6: 2025 EF Trip Meeting at 5:30 in the library
- 12/9: Varsity Wrestling @ NAC Tournament, 10:00am. The bus departs at 5:30am and JV Wrestling @ Otter Valley, 10:00am. The bus departs at 8:00am.
- 12/11: All 10th graders attend PAHCC
- Winter Break Begins 12/22

Last year we sold out of yearbooks completely! Please preorder yours to ensure you get one.
If you are not able to order online you can order by emailing Melissa Muzzy (MMuzzy@anwsd.org) and send in a check made out to ANWSD. Checks can be left in the main office or brought directly to Melissa Muzzy. Please make sure you include in a note or in an email the following information:

Green Team is holding a bottle drive for fundraising for a couple of projects throughout the year. Please ask anybody you know who has bottles and cans to save them and donate them to the Green Team. The drop-off date is Tuesday, December 12 at the High school, stay tuned for more details which will come later.

This year NHS is doing a toy and winter gear drive. All toys collected will go to FCS. VES has requested hats, waterproof mittens and winter coats. If you would like to contribute to this community service project please bring in your items prior to Wed. Dec 6th.

School Counseling News
School Counseling Office Upcoming Events:
Tuesday, 12/5, Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, VT) rep in the cafeteria block 4 with a Q&A session compass 5&6 in the School Counseling Conference Room. Any student interested in attending St. Mike’s is encouraged to attend this session. This is the reschedule date from 11/15.
Monday, 12/11, 10th grade visit to Patricia Hannaford Career Center (PHCC) 12:05 - 2:40 pm
10th grade visit to Patricia Hannaford Career Center (PHCC):
Brenda Logee, School Counselor at the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center (PAHCC), met with our 10th grade class in November to discuss the many options available at PAHCC. Following this presentation, students signed up to observe two programs in the areas of Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Business and Services, or Technology for their visit to PAHCC on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 12:05 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.
This visit will take place so that all 10th graders are aware of the college and career preparation opportunities that are available to them at PAHCC for 11th and 12th grades. This trip is also an exploration time to learn about other flexible pathways offered in 11th and 12th grades for students at Vergennes High School. We will leave on Monday, December 11th at 12:05 p.m. (after lunch and during Block 6) and return about 2:40 p.m. to go to the end of Block 8. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s school counselor.
The Governor’s Institutes of Vermont (GIV) - Summer Sessions 2024:

VSAC Scholarships for Vermonters:
VSAC scholarships are now available for application. If a senior didn’t receive a book yet, hard copies of the scholarship book are available in the school counseling office. Click here to visit the VSAC site for more information and to apply. Transcripts will be uploaded by the School Counseling Office once the USA application has been submitted. FAFSA and FSA ID Help from Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC): Seniors and Families - VSAC is offering 30-minute appointments through January 2024 with virtual and in-person options available. TIPS FOR KEEPING HEALTHY
-Keep up to date on all vaccinations
-Washing hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds
-Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing-preferably into the inside of the elbow or with a tissue followed by hand washing
-Avoiding sharing drinks, water bottles, utensils and phones
-Avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth
-Stay home when you are sick
-Get the recommended 8-10 hours of sleep a night
