A Message from Principal Carroll

Kahla Parents,
I hope this email finds you all enjoying a wonderful summer break! It's a time for relaxation, fun, and creating cherished memories. As the principal of Kahla Middle School, I wanted to take a moment to reach out and share my excitement for the upcoming school year.

The entire Kahla Middle School team has been working diligently to prepare for the 2023-2024 academic year. We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming all our students back on August 28, 2023, for the first day of school. We believe this year holds immense promise and potential for Every Knight, Every day!

In preparation for the start of the new school year, I encourage you to read through this latest issue of Knightly News in its entirety. It contains answers to many of the questions you may have, along with important information to help you get ready. If you still have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

As we gear up for another exciting year of learning and growth, I truly look forward to seeing the familiar smiling faces of our students and reconnecting with their parents. Your partnership and support are invaluable to us, and together, we can create a vibrant and engaging school community.

7TH GRADE IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS

Per the Texas Department of State Health Services, all incoming 7th graders must have their immunizations up to date. Three vaccines are due before starting 7th grade:

1. Varicella #2 (Chicken Pox)
2. Meningococcal (Meningitis)
3. Tdap (Booster for Tetanus)
The school nurse must have a copy of all updated immunizations before the start of 7th grade.

CLEAR BACKPACK POLICY

In an effort to improve the safety measures currently in place, CFISD requires all high school and middle school students to use clear backpacks. Students participating in an extracurricular activity are permitted to carry non-transparent bags to store items pertaining to their particular activity (i.e. band, athletics, etc.).

Upon entry into the school, all extracurricular activity bags must be stored in lockers or designated areas. All bags are subject to search. Additionally, the maximum size for non-transparent bags that students in grades 6-12 will be permitted to carry during the school day, such as lunch kits, pencil bags and purses, will be 6” x 9”.

Elementary school students will be allowed to continue using traditional backpacks.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

All CFISD students have been assigned a 1:1 Chromebook, please have him/her bring the device and charging device to school each day.

Support Tickets - Happy Fox

There is a link to HappyFox (student support system) on the webpage for each campus. This link will take the student to my.cfisd.net where they can login. Upon login, they can click on the HappyFox logo to enter the system.

Students will be presented with questions, and based on their answers, other questions will appear as necessary in order to gather the information needed to address the issue with their regarding their request.

Lost Items

If you lose an item (charger or Chromebook) please submit a HappyFox ticket for a replacement. Unauthorized chargers will void our warranty. Please do not purchase chargers

Personal electronic devices including cell phones, tablets, personal laptops, and smart watches must be turned off and put away during instructional time.

A message from PBIS Leadership Team

Dear Parents,

Our school is participating in an important district initiative. It is called Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS).

What is PBIS?

It’s made up of systems, data, and practices all to help schools be more effective learning environments. It’s a way that makes school more predictable, consistent, and positive for all the students and staff.

A key point of PBIS is to support students socially and behaviorally to set them up for success. It encourages students to follow expected behavior by rewarding good behavior seen all while correcting the problem behaviors in a positive way.

What are the outcomes of PBIS?

Decreases distributive behavior & referral while increasing academics & academic achievement. It creates a safe & positive environment for students to learn.

How will Kahla execute this PBIS?

To keep students on the rules in a positive manner, we do the following when teaching academics and behavior:

Constantly teach and refer to our school-wide expectations.
Provide students with more praise than correction.
Talk to students with respect using positive voice tone.
Actively engage everyone in the class during instruction.
Use pre-correcting, prompting, and redirecting as we teach.
Look for the positive first and provide positive, immediate, frequent, and explicit feedback.
