Marcellin College Newsletter
Monday 12th December 2022
Message from the Principal - Ms. Maria Prescott
Tēnā koutou , Mālō ni, Bonjour, Mālō e lelei, Talofa lava, Taloha ni, Selamat siang, Ni sa Bula, Kamonaso, Guten Tag, Kia Orana, Ni Hao, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Namaste, Ram-Ram, Salām, Sanibona, and a very warm Advent greetings to you all!
This will be our final newsletter for the year and I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our Marcellin Whānau - our committed Board members, our dedicated staff and Marist brothers for their example and continued presence, our loyal ākonga and their whānau, all who have prayed for, and supported us and our school in so many ways this year.
Congratulations to our ākonga who were acknowledged and celebrated at the Middle School Prizegiving last week - it was humbling to see all our whānau come together to honour our tamariki. Congratulations to our senior ākonga who have completed their NCEA external examinations. The Examination Manager was very impressed with the high rate of attendance at these examinations and the commitment from our ākonga. All senior ākonga will be able to log onto the NZQA website to check their results in mid to late January / Kohitātea 2023, provided they have registered. Please contact your Kaiārahi if you need your NSN number to do this.
A letter will be emailed to all whānau enrolled at Marcellin College 2023 mid January / Kohitātea with the key dates and times for the first two weeks of Term One to ensure your tamariki / child(ren) are ready to learn for the new year. This will include Pastoral changes and instructions for the first day back to school. It is important that you update the Student Services team (office@marcellin.school.nz) if your contact details have changed.
In this season of joyful hope, we reflect on the blessings of this year, and on the “yes” of our Blessed Mother, to bring the Saviour into the world. We remember in our prayers those who are facing difficulties and the challenges of life at this time. May we follow in the example of our Blessed Mother, to bring Jesus, source of all hope, to all those we encounter.
On behalf of the Marcellin Board and Staff, I wish everyone in Marcellin College a very blessed and hope-filled Christmas where we have time to spend with whānau and friends, and remember the God who comes to save us.
Mere Kirihimete Marcellin Whānau,
Ngā mihi maioha
Ms. Maria Prescott

Important Information for 2023
IMPORTANT: Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) 2023
This is a reminder that we are a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) school, and all ākonga/students (Years 7 to 13) need a digital device that is supplied by whānau/families to support the blended learning approaches and digital assessments in class. This will be required from day 1 of 2023.
We have worked with PB Tech to offer you some solutions but please feel free to purchase a Chromebook or laptop from any supplier. To view the PB Tech discounted prices, click on the link to access their website: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/education/byod/marcellin-college?qr=pb_byod
To access the Marcellin College BYOD special pricing, type MARCBYOD in the box 'Enter BYOD Coupon Code' near the top of the website.
We recommend that whānau purchase a protective sleeve or bag for your tamariki/child’s device. There are lockers available at school for ākonga to securely store their device if they are not using them e.g. during PE or at interval and lunchtime. More information about lockers is available at Student Services.
2023 Polyfest
Thank you to ākonga and whānau who attended our second Polyfest fono on Monday 5th December. We are pleased to announce that we have sufficient interest and support to enter a Samoan group into the ASB Polyfest festival for 2023. More information regarding the sign-up process and trials will be released in the new year.
Other cultural groups within the school will have the opportunity to perform at the Marcellin College Cultural Festival on Friday 31st March, Term One 2023. This will be a revised version of the festival we held in Term Four this year. Information on how to join a cultural group and participate in the festival will be released at the start of Term One 2023.
