Opportunities
Salute to Music
The Salute to Music Program provides an opportunity for NYC public school students to receive FREE Saturday morning musical instruction along with peers within their boroughs. Ensembles include borough-based Concert Bands (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island), Orchestras (Bronx, Queens), Choruses (Brooklyn, Queens) and a Citywide Jazz ensemble which meets in Brooklyn. Each ensemble site will prepare and present a culminating concert in the spring.
Auditions are open to all New York City Department of Education public school students in Grades 4-8 who have completed at least 6 months of instrumental or choral instruction and are recommended by the instrumental or choral music teacher, principal, or guidance counselor to participate. Students who demonstrate proficient skill will be accepted into the appropriate Borough-Wide ensemble. Participation in a Junior Ensemble may be available for students who have completed at least one year of instrumental study and show promise of acquiring the skills necessary for advancement.
Salute to Music is starting earlier this year with a new pilot program! On Saturday September 23rd, 30th, and October 7th they will be offering a High School Audition Preparation program to interested 8th graders. Their regular Salute to Music Boroughwide Bands will begin in-person auditions on October 14th & 21st with rehearsals starting immediately after.
Please the attached information if interested in participating.
