Eiber's Adventure Update
January 18, 2023
IMPORTANT DATES
Jan 17-Feb 14 - Preschool Registration is open for 23-34 school year
Jan 26 - Food Distribution at 3:30pm
Jan 27 - Family Academic Night
We hope that your kids are getting back into their school routines! We wanted to remind everyone to please send your child to school dressed warmly and with appropriate shoes for the weather. As you know, the snow on the playground does not melt quickly due our cold temperatures. It is very important that you send snow boots with your child if they have some. There are certain areas of the playground that are restricted to students that are not wearing the appropriate shoes. If you are in need of a jacket, gloves or a hat, please reach out to Maria Beken and we will try to help.
Please take some time to read through all of the information below. It contains important news and dates regarding your student. This newsletter also introduces you to some more of our amazing support staff here at Eiber!
PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT IS NOW OPEN
Starting in the 2023-24 school year, Jeffco families will be able to take advantage of the new Universal Preschool Program (UPK) offered by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) to help offset the cost of preschool.
4 Year Olds (Students that turn 4 on or before October 1, 2023): Families will apply for preschool through the Universal Preschool Program (UPK) family portal. Please Note: When applying through the UPK family portal, if your desired school or program is not listed, please return to EnrollJeffco to apply.
3 Year Olds (Students that turn 3 on or before October 1, 2023): For all preschool programs at Jeffco neighborhood schools, charter schools, and option schools, families will apply for preschool through EnrollJeffco.

Our event will take place here at Eiber on Friday, January 27th from 5:00-6:30pm. Dinner will be provided! Please look out for a message tomorrow on how to RSVP. It is very important that we know how many families are planning on coming so that we can plan our activities accordingly and also make sure we have enough food for everyone. Hope to see you here!

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT NEWS
Help your child do well in school! Try a new idea every day! Here are a some suggestions from The Parent Institute on things you can try with your child every day to help them do well in school!
Show support when your student does schoolwork at home
Being involved when your child does assignments shows that you think schoolwork is important. The best way to be involved is to set your student up for success. Here are some suggestions on How you can help with that:
- Give schoolwork top priority. If you child can't finish assignments because of other activities, a schedule adjustment is needed to make it possible.
- Remember that schoolwork helps students practice what they are learning. Your child's work doesn't have to be perfect.
- Take complaints with stride. Your child shouldn't melt down over every assignment, but a little whining is normal.
- Show enthusiasm. "You sure know a lot about Ancient Greece. Tell me something else!"
- Play the opposites game. Say a word and see if your child can tell you its opposite
- Write an encouraging note and place it on your child's pillow
- Talk about three ways you used math today. Ask everyone in the family to tell how they used math
Please do not hesitate to reach out if have any questions or concerns.

In last week's newsletter, we introduced you to some of our amazing support staff! Please read on to meet some more of these wonderful staff members that make Eiber such an amazing place.
OUR WONDERFUL PRINCIPAL!
Ms. Bedell
I am Stacy Bedell and I have the honor and privilege of being the principal of our lovely little school. I am a Denver native. I attended college at Metropolitan State University (in Denver) and received my Master’s degree from the University of Colorado (at Denver). I live in Littleton with my sweet dog Apollo, whom most of your children have met. When I am not at school loving my work, I love coffee on the porch, gardening, reading, hiking, SUP-ing?, and traveling to warm places.
I came to Eiber in 2003-2004, so yes, I have been here since many of you were in school! I never intended to stay for as long as I have, yet I fell in love with the community, the students and families I have known over the years, and the wonderful staff members who care for our children every day – so I stayed – and every day I am happy I did. I believe that learning is joyful and that we learn best when we are happy, encouraged, cared for and confident. Eiber is a magical place where everyone believes we can have a positive influence in the lives of our children. Thank you for the pleasure of your children on this journey.

I love seeing the kids and visiting the grown ups that give me treats!
