SENIOR EDITION
The Class of 2024
A group of seniors shared how real everything feels now that it is 2024. You may feel the same way. We know many of you may be experiencing excitement about the special moments and possibilities that are ahead for your child, and you may start to feel a hint of sadness as your students start their final semester of high school. The next few months are going to go by very quickly, and they are very full, so we hope this newsletter will give you the information you need to feel informed and prepared for the journey ahead. If you have questions along the way or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our senior class sponsors or administrators.
Upcoming Opportunities to Be Involved
Daily 3 Raffle Fundraiser
Parents, we need your help!
The class of 2024 is looking for parents to help out with our biggest fundraiser - The Daily 3 Lotto Raffle! We need parents who are willing to help sell raffle tickets! The raffle is pretty simple - purchase a ticket for $10, and if your ticket number is drawn during the midday Daily 3 drawing in February - you win! If you are interested in selling, please contact Mr. Wenzel at wenzech@lc-ps.org or Ms. Scapini at scapime@lc-ps.org.
Senior Parent Meeting
We are hosting a Class of 2024 parent meeting on Monday, January 29th. Parents can return materials from the raffle sales, and we will continue planning for the senior sunset. The meeting will start at 6 PM in the LGI room at High School North.
Senior Year Happenings
Senior Dues
In addition to carrying on the many LCN traditions for this year’s senior class, we are also looking for new opportunities to create special moments for our seniors. We are working to combine the sacredness of traditional events and the excitement of new endeavors. In order to provide our students with a variety of moments that we hope will become lifelong memories, senior dues are collected. These dues help pay for many events and activities throughout the year, so our students do not have to worry about many different financial commitments; instead, they can focus on having fun and making memories with their classmates before they finish their time as Crusaders.
Payments must be made before a student can purchase his/her prom ticket. Senior dues can be paid using the QR code or link.
Stay Informed
In addition to special edition newsletters, we always share information related to the Class of 2024 at the end of our weekly LCN News updates. You can also find important dates and information on the senior page of our LCN website. Please review these resources regularly to stay informed.
Mr. Crusader
Our annual Mr. Crusader competition will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Students interested in participating should attend an informational meeting taking place during the lunch periods on Friday, January 19th. If your student cannot attend the meeting, please have him see Mrs. Hough in room 122.
Parchment
Colleges require your semester and final transcripts at the end of the year to complete enrollment. It is the student's responsibility to order a transcript through the LCN Parchment account. You can order your transcript now and click "Hold for Grades," and the grades will send when the semester ends. Please contact Mrs. Waters in the counseling office if you have questions.
Community Service
All LCPS students must complete community service to graduate. These 30 hours need to be completed by May 2nd. A reflection log must also be submitted. Students can earn a Presidential Award for Community Service if they complete 100 hours and submit their paperwork by March 1st. An honor cord is given to LCN seniors who complete 80 hours by April 1st. Please contact Mrs. Hosler at hosleca@lc-ps.org if you have questions.
Senior Honors Project
The Senior Honors Project is a multiple week experience that allows seniors to be present in a job setting. During their project, students will gain knowledge in their desired career field, interact with adults in a work setting, present themselves in a professional manner, and obtain valuable insights about their future plans and interests. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, strong leadership, and good attendance are eligible. These seniors will receive a letter in the upcoming weeks inviting them to participate in this incredible opportunity.
Honor Cords
As the second semester progresses, we will work to identify seniors who have earned honor cords. Lists of qualifying students for each honor cord will be posted once available (after spring break).
Commencement Involvement
We have multiple opportunities for our LCN seniors to be involved in this year's graduation ceremony. Students can help create the montage that is shown during the ceremony, be involved in performing the class song, or try-out for a speaking role. More information about try-outs and deadlines will be available next month, but we want students to begin considering if they would like to be involved in these roles.
Attendance Incentives
Student attendance is an important part of their academic success. To reward good attendance, we are creating a number of incentives for seniors who are attending school consistently. The specific incentives will be announced soon, but examples from previous years include preferred seating at graduation, extra grad tickets, free tuxedo rentals, and free prom tickets.
Fines and Equipment
PowerSchool now has a feature that alerts students and families of fines associated with the student's account. Seniors must have all fines paid and equipment returned before their last day of school. Chromebooks and textbooks will be collected during the last week of classes in May. We will send out a communication to each family outlining any fees connected to your student's account.
Lawn Signs
Some of our LCN senior parents are organizing a lawn sign fundraiser, so please look for more information to come out soon.
Decision Day
On May 2nd, we will celebrate and honor our seniors who have made decisions about their future plans. We look forward to this event as our seniors share their future hopes and dreams that are possible because of their past efforts and experiences.
Local Scholarship Packet
Seniors are now able to apply for a variety of local scholarships. Please see our packet of scholarships available to LCN seniors by accessing the QR code below.
