A Note from Principal Marvel
We have had an excellent start to the new school year! Last week, Warrior Nation celebrated homecoming and unveiled our Chief Wasilla Statue to the community. This was the culmination of a four year process whereby WHS worked with Knik Tribal Council to update our logo, create lessons for Alaska History courses that go into depth about the Dena'ina Athabascan and Chief Wasilla, and design a monument that stands proud in the front of our school. The statue is impressive. Despite not looking it, Chief Wasilla stands 6'5" on a block of concrete. I'm hopeful you will take some time to come by the school and take a look.
Our first CAFÉ (Community and Family Engagement) will take place on Wednesday, September 13th from 8-8:30AM. These meetings always fall on the second full week Wednesday of the month. For those new to Warrior Nation, this is your opportunity to learn about all of the great things happening at our school, engage in conversation with me and have questions answered that you might have about our many programs. I always encourage parents to make at least one throughout the school year. For some, this might not be possible because of the logistics of their job. No worries. I always send out notes via Blackboard about what is covered.
Have a wonderful fall and thank you for sharing your children with us!

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success for students going in the military, as well as students who are not entering the military. Students may sign up under SITE SHORTCUTS on the Wasilla High School website.
Pre-Arranged Absence Information
PARENTS – If your student is going to be missing 3 or more days of school, in a row,
they will need to fill out a PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCE FORM. Please have your student see
Mrs. Wilbur in the front office to get the form. She will go over it with them. The student will
need to take the form to their teachers to get assignments and sign off on. Then they will need to bring
it home to the parent/guardian to see that the student did their part and the parent/guardian must sign. The student will then return to school to have their counselor sign. Once the form is completed the student must return it to Mrs. Wilbur at the front office, so she can fix the student’s attendance to be excused during the specified time.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Wilbur at 907 352 8200. Thank you.
Bus Passes
PARENTS – BUS PASSES need to be called in BY NOON.
Please include your students name, bus #, cross streets or the
address of the stop. Include the students name your child will be
riding with and your contact information.

Note from the Nurse
Hello Families!
Welcome to the 2023-24 school year! I look forward to working with you to keep Wasilla High School students healthy and safe at school. Please let me know what I can do to help your student. Below is important information about nursing services in the Mat-Su Borough School District.
- Immunizations - The State of Alaska requires children enrolled in school be immunized against specific diseases. You can check your student's immunization compliance in ParentVUE under the Health tab or by contacting me or your child's healthcare provider. If you are seeking religious exemption. The State of Alaska Religious Exemption Form should be completed, notarized, and submitted to the school. This form must be completed annually.
- Medications - If your child needs medications at school, I have Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Zyrtec, Tums, and cough drops for students who have parent's permission to receive them . Students may not carry any medications at school without written authorization from a provider, approved by the parent and the school nurse. If your student needs to take medication that is not listed above during the school day, please have their doctor complete a Medication Authorization and bring it to me along with the medications they will be taking. Do not send students to school with medications.
- Health Plans - If your student has health conditions requiring management at school, please complete the appropriate form below. These forms must be updated by their medical provider every year.
- Health Screening - During the year, we will be conducting health screenings (height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and dental) on students new to our district. Health screenings may also be requested by a teacher, parent or evaluation team. You will be notified if screening tests indicate follow-up or further testing.
Again, I look forward to working with you and your students this year!
Sincerely,
Rhonda Lackey, MSN RN NCSN

Staff Of The Month
- "I really appreciate that Amber offers up advice to us teachers outside her department. She is also a refreshing voice/inspiration for maintaining motivation as a veteran teacher. She still participates in spirit activities and weekend events which adds a lot of value to our staff morale and student engagement."
