This Month at Canyon View
CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Principal's Notes
Dear Coyote Families,
On behalf of the entire Canyon View Elementary School team, I would like to wish all of our Coyotes and their families a very Happy New Year! We are thrilled to welcome our students and staff back to school tomorrow! This month we have many wonderful things to look forward to, including: Around the World Night, STEAM Festival, and two CV family Dine-Outs!
I am pleased to welcome Ms. Stephanie Libby to the Canyon View family, replacing Ms. Kate Recore as our CV Foundation-funded Artist in Residence for Science Instruction. We are grateful and thankful for Ms. Recore's many years of service to Canyon View and wish her the best in her future endeavors. Ms. Libby brings several years of elementary teaching experience to the position, as well as a passion for teaching science. In fact, she holds an MA in STEAM education! Ms. Libby will begin meeting with classes this week.
Let's Make it a Great Year Together,
Mrs. Erica Edmonston (she/her/hers)
Principal, Canyon View Elementary School

Garden Volunteers Needed
Did you know we have a garden at Canyon View? We grow everything from flowers to vegetables and herbs, and even little bananas! All of our Coyote learners have an opportunity to participate in cultivating our garden and learning about all the different techniques to grow a thriving plant from a seed.
Our garden is 100% volunteer run and our garden is looking for a few parent volunteers per classroom to assist during these lessons. You don't need a green thumb to help out! If you're interested in helping, please contact Johanna at johannagh@gmail.com. Volunteers working with children need to be Level 1 cleared through the office. We can help guide you through the process!

PUSD Equity Advisory Committee
December 2023
Dear PUSD Community,
We are looking forward to continuing with the Equity Advisory Committee. Thank you for your patience as we spent the first few months focused on scaling work at school sites and engaged in thoughtful planning around our next steps to ensure racial equity and inclusion throughout PUSD.
This committee includes representative parents/guardians, students, and staff perspectives in an advisory role regarding the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for Racial Equity and Inclusion. The Equity Advisory Committee will learn together, listen to input from others, and add value to our District improvement efforts.
The committee will:
Provide input and feedback on the ongoing work within the District focused on racial equity and inclusion
Provide input regarding the revision of the Racial Equity and Inclusion Plan, with an emphasis on metric development
Provide recommendations for next steps in ensuring every student and adult feels safe, valued, seen, and heard
Support consistent communication of equity improvement efforts back to school communities
We know that diverse perspectives from across our District and feeder patterns will enrich our efforts to ensure every student and adult feels safe, valued, seen, and heard.
The Equity Advisory Committee will meet four (4) times during the 2023-2024 school year. All meetings are scheduled in person at the District Office in the Community Room. The meeting dates are below:

CATCHING UP WITH... Team CV
TEAM CV Meeting
Coyote parents (members or not) are invited to attend our monthly Team CV meetings, especially if you are interested in learning what the PTO & Foundation do, how money that is raised is spent, or are interested in training or shadowing for a position on the board/s next year. Many of our current board members are graduating out with their 5th graders this year and having people who are comfortable taking over key roles is important to ensuring we maintain a strong partnership for our younger kids. Though formal childcare is not available, children are invited to attend meetings and sit in the room with parents. Meetings occur every first Thursday of the month at 6 pm in the Innovation Station or via Zoom. For Zoom info, please DM us to be added to the distribution list.
Due to the holiday break, our next meeting is Thursday, January 11th. Hope to see you there!
