Principal's Message 9.10.21
Dear Lake Grove Families,
Thank you for your continued support and collaboration as we work together to keep all our students and staff in school full time. We continue to focus to on building positive relationships within our classrooms and school community. Being together in a safe environment is my top priority. We know that children learn best when they feel safe.
As you saw from my other emails, this week we communicated about two positive Covid cases within our LG community. We have multiple safety measures in place here at school to prevent possible spread, including keeping students masked and spaced at least 3 feet while indoors, keeping them 6 feet apart while eating (outdoors as often as possible), and ensuring that adults on our staff are vaccinated.
Current quarantine guidelines state that if a person is within 6 feet of an infected person (even outdoors) for greater than 15 minutes, cumulatively, over a 24 hour period, they will need to quarantine. Please be aware of this when choosing how to spend your time outside of school. If a student needs to quarantine, then access to schoolwork will be provided as with any time away from school. Teachers will either leave work for the student in the office for families to pick up, or assignments may be available through SeeSaw or Google Classroom.
There is more detailed information on our District Website here.
Be well,
Principal Knapp

I-Ready Assessments
This Fall, all students in Grades 1-8 will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. i-Ready is a program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform and tailor instruction to accelerate growth. This is the first of three i-Ready assessments we give each year, and results will be shared with parents in October (at conferences).
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s skill level. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
At Lake Grove, the Fall i-Ready testing window will be between September 7 and September 24.
Lunch and Breakfast
Grab and Go lunch and breakfast are provided free to all LOSD students. Students may order lunch and/or breakfast each day with their teacher. Breakfasts will be delivered to classrooms for take-home in the afternoon. Click here for a link to the menus. Please note that menus may change based on availability.
Ready Schools, Safe Learners Mask Update
On September 3, 2021, OHA updated OAR 333-019-1015 requiring face coverings in all K-12 indoor and outdoor settings. All individuals 5 years of age and older are to wear a face covering outdoors when individuals cannot or do not consistently maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from people not in their household.
This update means that when our students are outside for any school related activity (including recess) and cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance between themselves, they will need to wear masks. Students will be told by their teachers that we will start implementing this rule immediately, effective September 10, 2021. This is a great opportunity to discuss safety protocols with your children tonight. Thank you for your partnership!

Bus Procedures
- Thank you for your grace as we collaborate with STA to hire and train new drivers to learn all the new students and their routes.
- Please complete this Google Form to let us know your child's bus stop (cross streets). We will create a bus tag for each rider to help ensure the drivers know when to help them exit the bus.
- Please be aware that students may only ride the bus to which they are assigned. If you are planning a playdate, please plan to provide your own transportation if your plans include a bus rider.

Medication at School
Paperwork must also be completed if you wish to have your child self-carry an asthma inhaler.
