Superstar Snapshots
December 2023
From the Principal
Superstar Families,
I can not believe that we are about to begin the last month of 2023! It's even harder to believe that we are one-third of the way through the school year! I'm so impressed with the learning I see, how students talk about what they are learning, and the ownership I see in the students on their own success.
As always, I want to share information with you for the upcoming month as well as share reminders.
- If your Superstar is going to eat breakfast, please have them at school by 8:15.
- If you have moved or your phone number has changed, please contact the office with your new information.
- If your Superstar is going to be absent, please contact the school office. Do not use Remind to report a student absence. If you have not communicated the absence with the office, you will receive a phone call.
- We have an Ugly Sweater Spirit Day on Wednesday, December 13.
- Students will be dismissed at 1:00 on Friday, December 15. School will resume on January 3, 2024!
- January 3, 2024 is our first day back from Winter Break. It is an early release day.
When we return to school in January, dismissal will look different. Students will no longer be waiting outside for parents. We will be using a digital dismissal system. If you do not have a car tag, get one before January 3. Whether you walk or drive to pick up your Superstar, you will need that car tag. Why did we make this change? We made this change to keep all of our school family safer: students, staff, and family. Curious what it will look like? Check out this video.
We're so thankful for your partnership with us. We do not take it for granted that our partnership is so important. You, as an expert on your Superstar, help make each day a success.

Nurse News
Superstar Families,
It is COLD outside! Please have your Superstar wear pants and bring a jacket to school.
It is cold and flu season. If your Superstar vomits, has diarrhea, or a fever, please wait for 24 hours after experiencing any of these symptoms before returning to school.
If your Superstar has vaccinations that they need, Winter Break is a perfect opportunity to get them!
Thanks,
Nurse Rita
Please check Lost and Found. All items will be donated during break.
Conscious Discipline
Perseverance
Our upcoming trait of the month for December is perseverance. Part of perseverance is not giving up, but the other part is understanding that making mistakes is a very important part of learning! When we make mistakes, we learn what doesn’t work, we make a new plan, and we try again. The more we adjust and try again, the easier the task becomes until we have mastered it. When children learn that making mistakes is okay, and a necessary part of learning, their willingness to try, explore, and be creative grows. Their self-confidence also increases! When your child makes mistakes, help them analyze why they weren’t successful and ask them what they can try to do to make it better the next time. Please share this video with your child to help them learn how persevere!
Wendy Schiller, Behavior Coach
Counselor's Corner
Hello Superstar families!
This month we are choosing to focus on perseverance, which is “To keep at doing something in spite of difficulties” or as it’s sometimes said, “Never give up.” This is an important skill for all of us during the busy holiday season.
Sometimes at this point of the year, there can be an increase in students becoming upset and having challenging behaviors. It is important to remember that all behavior is a form of communication and these things don’t mean that a child is a “bad kid”. Rather when students struggle it means they are lacking a skill or unsure how to solve a problem.
Conscious Discipline reminds us that we don’t gain anything by punishing students for skills they don’t have. In fact, if we view unwanted behaviors as a chance to teach, we can help students discover new solutions and skills. This month we will be focusing on using our “grit” when challenged. Join us in modeling perseverance and helping our students work hard this month.
Wishing you well,
Mr. Thomas, Counselor

If your Superstar needs school supplies or a coat, please let the office know.
There is no PTO meeting in December.
Goodie Friday is back! Goodie Friday is December 1 and January 5. If your Superstar is in line to make a purchase, please park your car rather than stay in the car line.
