Summer food benefits available
In a continued response to the pandemic, the federal government is again offering summer Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits to students who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. The benefit for summer 2023 is $120 per child. If your child is currently eligible for meal benefits, you do not need to do anything to apply. If your child had P-EBT benefits in a prior year, the summer benefit will be loaded onto that card. If your child did not have a card previously, they will be mailed a card. Please make sure your mailing address is up to date in Family Access. If you have lost your child’s card, please contact the P-EBT help center at 1-833-518-0282.
To sign up for text updates on your child’s benefits, click here.
Families who want to apply for meal benefits and summer P-EBT may complete a meal application. The deadline for approved applications is the last day of school: Thursday, June 22.
For more information, please contact Child Nutrition Services at (253) 891-6450 or child_nutrition@sumnersd.org.
New family communication tool coming in August
Later this summer and into early fall, the District is switching from SchoolMessenger and Remind to ParentSquare for its robocalls, emails, text messages and more! This is a big transition with a big payoff for a number of increased features and functionality that will greatly enhance and streamline family communication and engagement.
Here are just a few key ParentSquare features we’re especially excited for:
One tool for all communication formats
Supports 106 languages with real-time, two-way translation
Families choose communication format (text, email, voice calls) and timing (immediate or digest)
You can expect to receive more information about ParentSquare over the summer, as well as an invitation to activate your account right before school begins. The only action to take right now is to make sure your contact information is up-to-date in Skyward Family Access. With text messaging a family-preferred communication format, be sure to include your cell phone number in the primary phone field.
