June 28, the last day of school, is our Southwood School Picnic. Please remember that all students and parents are asked to provide their own picnic lunch. PAC will not be selling lunches this year. We will not be selling milk.

Lunch will start at

12:00 Noon on picnic day.

In case of rain, lunch will be eaten

in the school.

June 30 - If you signed up for a printed report card, you may pick it up at the office on June 30th from

9 a.m. - 10 a.m. Report cards that are not picked up by 10 a.m. will be mailed out.

MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT

Tuesday, September 6

from 4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Parents and children are invited to come to Southwood School the night before school starts to find classrooms, meet their new teachers and put their school supplies in their desks. We are sure that this approach to “Meet the Teacher Night” will remove a few of the “night before the first day of school” jitters!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL for Grade 1 - 4: Wednesday, September 7

Friday, September 16 & Monday, September 19

These two days will be set aside for teachers and students to be involved in some in-depth “getting to know your child” activities and assessments. This is possible because they will only have about half of their students in their classroom on each day. Each family will be notified in the beginning of September if their family is attending school on Friday or Monday. The students will have a regular “school day” with some extras in terms of fun and unique activities in the computer lab, gym and music room.

Sept 7 & 8 - The first days - individual interviews (interview date & time will be sent home).

Sept 9 & 12 - Staggered entrance (one half of class at a time) - On Sept. 9 & 12 there is NO BUSING AVAILABLE to go home at 11:30 am and to come to school for 12:50 pm. Your child may come to school by bus for 8:50 am or go home after 3:45 pm if you have an older Southwood sibling traveling with your Kindergarten students.

Sept 13 - Regular classes and bus schedule begins.

PLEASE NOTE: Wednesday, September 7th (the first day of school) there will be an early dismissal at 3:15 p.m. for all non-bus students. All bus students are asked to stay in school for the regular dismissal at 3:45 p.m. so that bus lines can be set up and bus captains can be chosen for the school year.

2016 Summer Program

The Hanover Parent and Child Community Program would like to invite Southwood parents and their preschool children to attend free parent-child programming this summer. This program is being provided by the Hanover School Division to promote development of school readiness skills. Children will have the opportunity to play, learn, create, sing and develop skills to prepare them for kindergarten. Parents will be able to visit with other parents, learn new skills and participate in activities with their children. Snacks will be provided.

When: The following Mondays at 1:15—3:15:

July 11 and 15

August 8, 15 and 22.

When: The following Wednesdays from 9:30—11:30:

July 6, 13 and 20.

August 10, 17 and 24.

( Families can attend weekly or just drop in when you can.)

Where: Room B-8 at Southwood School in Steinbach.

*Note: Children should bring indoor footwear.

Parents please park in the designated parking areas.
