Berlin Bobcat Beat
October 2023
Greetings from Mrs. G!
Dear Berlin Families,
We have closed out another fantastic month here at Berlin Elementary! Staff have been working hard on learning about Act 173 and have been looking closely at the systems that support our students. Our interventionists and grade level teams have identified students who are in need of a little boost in academics. Our groups are up and running and kids are getting what they need in academics and social emotional learning.
Students have been learning about friendship skills and the importance of kindness. They are working hard on building their self-regulation toolboxes. We are all looking forward to seeing you at family conferences on 11/10.
Our PTNA has worked tirelessly to put on BES’s Trunk or Treat Event that is happening tonight October 27 from 5:00-6:30. The PTNA meets the first Thursday of the month from 6:00-7:00 in the BES Library, come join us!
Lastly, we need your help! We have noticed an increase in students who are coming in late to school. We average about 13-15 students daily! We understand that life gets hectic however we need your support in ensuring that students are here on time. Students can arrive at 8:40 and go right to breakfast or at 8:45 and go directly to their classroom. The school day starts at 9:00 and students arriving after 9:00 are considered tardy.
To illustrate this example, Student A misses 15 minutes of school daily.
15 x 5= 75 minutes a week
75 x 4= 375 minutes a month
If a student is missing the first 15 minutes of their day in this example they are missing 6.25 minutes of social interaction time a week. Starting the day with community and connection is a cornerstone of your child’s experience here at BES. As part of our Responsive Classroom philosophy each classroom starts the day with a morning meeting. This meeting builds community, teaches academic and social skills and sets the tone for the day. Your child’s participation in this meeting is critical to your child’s sense of belonging, academic success and preparedness for the day. In addition to morning meetings children also have the opportunity to complete tasks that set them up for success for the rest of the day.
Teaming up with your child and the school, if necessary, to ensure that your child is at school on time every day and stays for the entire day is a key to success. The school is here to support if this is an area of struggle for your family.
Thank you for your support and collaboration.
Be Well,

Berlin Families YOU ROCK!!!
Those little sea creature bracelets are really cute, but the funds raised by our Berlin families are even cuter!!!!
So far, with this fundraiser, your student's teachers have earned $4,440.00 in classroom gift cards as well as profits from sales of $540.54.
That is phenomenal considering we have only done this for less than two weeks!
Thank you all so much!!
