and COVID-19 Surveillance Information
District-Wide Full Remote January 4, 5, and 6
clic para espanol
District 41 will be in full remote learning on January 4, 5 and 6 while we collect and test saliva samples for the COVID-19 surveillance program. We will send a robo call and an email out the evening of Wednesday, January 6, to confirm returning to blended or not. Please plan for being back in the blended in-person model on Thursday, January 7.
Please drop off the saliva samples on the following dates/times (at any D41 school):
January 4, 8 a.m. to 6 pm.
January 5, 8 to 10 a.m.
IF YOU HAVE NOT SIGNED THE WAIVER IN SKYWARD TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SALIVA SURVEILLANCE, YOU CAN DO IT NOW (BEFORE MONDAY, DECEMBER 14) TO BE INCLUDED IN THE JANUARY 4 TESTING GROUP.
All students and staff who are signed up for saliva surveillance before Monday, December 14 will be provided saliva test kits prior to leaving for winter break.
Many families who have been signed up from the beginning already have the supplies and kits that were provided ahead of time. You would have received a baggie/envelope with 3 barcoded vials.
The baggies going home today for new participants will have 2 barcoded vials.
If you sign up prior to 12/14, you will receive a baggie next week that has 1 barcoded vial.
This will keep all participants on a similar schedule for receiving new testing supplies.
Travel Related Quarantine Information
If you plan to travel during winter break (or anytime during the school year), please review and follow the Illinois Department of Public Health travel guidance for quarantines. If you do travel and quarantine related to travel, the days out of school are considered unexcused absences; however, we will not refer a family to the truancy program through the Regional Office of Education for absences related to holiday quarantine during the pandemic.
If the student misses their in-person (core) part of the day and participates in their remote part of the day it will count as a half day unexcused absence.
If the student.misses both their in-person (core) part of the day and their remote part of the day, it will count as a full day unexcused absence
Teachers will provide work to the students in travel quarantine when they return, but the students will not be moved into full remote learning while they are out of school for quarantines due to travel/vacation/visits with family.
It has been the policy of District 41 prior to COVID 19 that work is not provided by teachers prior to leaving for a vacation. While we know that this is not ideal, we just cannot overwhelm our remote classes due to planned vacations at a time when they have large numbers of students out due to Covid-related quarantines.
Please note that our blended model was not built around employing live streaming into the blended classrooms to address quarantines. There are some instances of live streaming happening, but it is not being done as an option to remote learning and it is not the norm. If you have any questions about live streaming and the impact on instruction or the rationale for the decisions around our implementation of limited live streaming, please reach out to Dr. Katie McCluskey, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability.
Thank you.
