Help Your Child Transition to Our New Digital Learning System!
Prince George’s County Public Schools is continuing our transition to Canvas as our primary learning management system. Starting next school year, teachers and students at most middle and high schools will exclusively use Canvas as their digital learning environment. However, at the elementary level, Google Classroom will remain available for at least one more school year to allow for a phased-in transition of Canvas. Regional centers, K-8 academies, and charter schools are not impacted by this timeline.
What is a learning management system?
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application designed to create, distribute and manage the delivery of educational content. As an LMS, Canvas provides teachers with a platform to share classroom resources and digital assignments, in a single location.
Why is PGCPS moving to Canvas?
We have chosen Canvas as our exclusive learning management system for several reasons:
Robust and Integrated: Canvas is a more powerful learning management system that seamlessly integrates with many of our district tools, making it easier for students to access multiple resources in one place.
Secure Environment: Canvas provides a secure digital learning environment, promoting safety and privacy for our students and staff.
Consistency: Having a single learning management system streamlines instruction and communication between teachers and students, reducing confusion among multiple platforms.
Real-World Preparedness: Since Canvas is used in many higher education institutions, students will be better prepared for a future beyond our school system.
How can I help my child learn Canvas?
To support you in learning more about Canvas, we encourage you to view our Canvas for Families Overview and Canvas Family Guide. These resources will help you and your child familiarize themselves with the platform before next school year.
We believe that Canvas will be a valuable addition to our schools and will be a benefit to our students. Thank you for your flexibility as we modernize our technology applications to meet the demands of today’s digital world.
Youth Leadership Initiative Ambassadors' Community Service Project
Youth Leadership Initiative, YLI, is a youth-led and highly interactive
leadership development program designed to empower and engage youth ages
11-13 with community service activities.
YLI Ambassadors request your support by donating children's books
and summer toys that are in good condition. What an excellent way to clean out the toy chest and declutter your student's room. Items should be placed in the designated boxes outside of Room 113 by Tues., June 13th.
Our YLI 8th Grade Ambassadors: David Chukwu, Chimdindu Ikechukwu, Munachi Onwezi, and Jayeden Wabila; and our YLI 7th Grade Ambassador: Chloe Greene appreciate you supporting our student-led community service project.
Last Chance for Donations Before I Leave for Ukraine
Thank you all so much for expressing interest in this very worthwhile cause. Every item purchased will directly affect the life of a civilian who has been injured by a landmine, toy bomb or booby trap. These have been placed by soldiers to purposely injure civilian populations as a means of breaking their will to fight.
Landmines, also known as "anti personnel devices", have been scattered around eastern Ukraine by the tens of thousands. These landmines, which reside undetected, underground, will be a nightmare for Ukrainians for decades. With landmines It is not the explosion that kills, but the loss of limb and blood that cause the loss of life.
Every compression bandage purchased will help control bleeding and save a life of a landmine victim.
Many people have asked me, "what is a toy bomb"? These are bombs placed by Russian troops to target children. These innocent children inadvertently pick up what they think is an abandoned children's toy not knowing that picking it up will trigger an explosive device. This practice was perfected by the Russian army while fighting in Afghanistan, and is particularly cruel. The idea is, injure the child and the parents must care for the child and thus not go off to war.
The supplies you purchase from our Amazon list will help save the life of a child injured by a toy bomb or landmine.
Booby traps have killed or maimed many civilians who were only trying to regain access back into their homes after fleeing Russian occupation. These booby traps have created a sea or orphans in its wake.
Your donation can decide the wholeness of a Ukrainian family.
I hope you see the reason why I have chosen to take on this dangerous mission, which will take me to forward areas of fighting to distribute the 100 life saving packs we have assembled for first responders. We are at 73% of our goal to 100 first responder landmine kits. We need your help.
Please visit my web page www.assistance4ukraine.org and click on the donate button. We do not accept cash donations and for the sake of transparency, we ask only for donations of material supplies. For those organizations or individuals who raise $500 or more worth of supplies, they will appear in an article on our website and have their names engraved on a plaque presented to the founders of Mission Kharkiv, our partner on this project in Ukraine.
If you do participate, please send me a list of item(s) you, your family, or organization has purchased. I can cross reference this against Amazon's data. This will thwart any confusion with other donations we receive.
Thanks again.
