Personal Technology Use
As an Elementary school we are seeing an increase K-5 with students using cell phones and smart watches throughout the day. Teachers have asked students to turn their watches off, students are sending text messages in class, from the bathrooms, at lunch and recess. We have found that students are texting home and families are texting students back during the day. It is challenging to follow our standard protocols if we aren't working together. Moving forward, we will need to be more consistent and firm in following the electronic device policy from the student handbook. Cell phones and smart watches will remain in student backpacks. When students don't follow the expectation and put their device in their back pack we will have the office call a student's family to pick up their device from school. It is important that we focus on the goal of learning at school and eliminate unnecessary interruptions by personal devices. Should you need to get an important message to your child please call the office. If you child is sick please remind them they should go to the nurse. If the mode of transportation is changing for your child please let the office know. We really want to partner with our families to help our students focus on the learning in front of them. The district policy for electric devices in elementary school is below.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN SCHOOL Phones/Smart Watches Students are extended the privilege of possessing phones/smartwatches on school grounds; however, their use is limited to after-school dismissal and non-school days. These devices must be in the off position, or not used once the student arrives on campus until the end of the school day.

POLICY FOR ADMINISTERING MEDICINE TO STUDENTS
7:270 Administering Medicines to Students
Students should not take medication during school hours or during school-related activities unless it is necessary for a student's health and well-being. When a student's licensed health care provider and parent/guardian believe that it is necessary for the student to take a medication during school hours or school-related activities, the parent/guardian must request that the school dispense the medication to the child and otherwise follow the District's procedures on dispensing medication.
No School District employee shall administer to any student, or supervise a student's self-administration of, any prescription or non-prescription medication until a completed and signed School Medication Authorization Form (SMA Form) is submitted by the student's parent/guardian. No student shall possess or consume any prescription or non-prescription medication on school grounds or at a school-related function other than as provided for in this policy and its implementing procedures.
Nothing in this policy shall prohibit any school employee from providing emergency assistance to students, including administering medication.
