Message from Joel
Dear Chugach Families,
We are quickly coming to the end of the second quarter of the school year, and I am certain that both staff, students, and parents are looking forward to a couple of weeks of rest and relaxation. However, while we look forward to a little time off, it is also important that we keep focused on finishing up projects and work in our Family Groups and for students to continue to do their best each day. To help with this, please make your best effort to have students here at school on time, as it is important to maximize our learning time.
Upcoming this week and next, our Middle and Upper students will be doing their MAP testing (11/30-12/1), and our Kinder, Primary, and Middle students will have FastBridge testing on 12/8. Please make sure your student(s) are in school these days, as it is important for us to see the progress your children are making.
In closing, I would like to remind families that it is important for our children to be dressed appropriately for the weather. Lately, we have had some Middle and Upper students try to go outside at recess without the proper gear when it has been single-digit numbers. Please make sure if your child is Kinder-Middle, they have boots, snow pants, jackets, hats, and gloves/mittens so they can go outside at recess and get some fresh air and playtime. Upper students should have all of the above, with the exception of snow pants (unless they plan on sledding - then they will need them).

The Chugach Ice Rink is READY TO GO starting Thursday, December 1st!!! Students may bring skates (with skate guards) and helmets from home or borrow from the supply at school. Please note: School skates have not been sharpened and we are looking for volunteers to help with that process. We also have a very limited selection of helmets. Students are encouraged to bring helmets from home.
Chugach Ice Rink Rules:
1. Helmets MUST be worn by anyone on the skating rink.
2. No boots on the rink! If you are not skating you should not be on the ice rink.
3. Hockey sticks and hockey pucks are not allowed on the ice rink during school hours.
Skating will occur during our lunch recess time (11:40am - 12:30pm). If there are any parents that would like help students with tying skates, this would be a great volunteer opportunity!
CHUGACH CHOIR
The Chugach Choir will be performing at the WINTER CHOIR FEST on Wednesday, December 7th , 6-7pm at the Writers Block Bookstore. They will also be performing on Friday, December 16th, 8:30-9am in the Chugach Gym. We have a fun and diverse repertoire, please come and enjoy. Also, keep your ears peeled for "flash mob" performance in the school! There will be a Fife & Drum Parade on Tuesday, December 20th at 12:40pm in the Chugach Hallway

Chugach Cafeteria News
Student Nutrition will be posting the Cafe Manager position for Chugach Optional as soon as possible and will work towards finding a new Cafe Manager for our school. If you are interested in applying for this position, please check in with the office and we would be happy to get you started on the application process.
Friendly Reminders
- Please refrain from parking in any of the "RESERVED" parking spots, the fire lane or the loading dock area. We know parking is tight and the weather is cold, but for safety and courtesy reasons these areas/spots must be respected.
Outer wear
- All students need to have proper winter gear when going outside for recess.
- For Kinder, Primary and Middle, this means boots, snow pants, jackets, hats, and gloves.
- For Uppers, they must have boots, jackets, hats, and gloves (although snow pants are recommended as well).
- Students who don’t have the proper gear with them and can’t find something that fits from Nurse Maya will be spending their recess sitting on the benches by the front office.
Please encourage your student(s) to be prepared.
Attendance
- If your child is going to be out of school for the day please contact the office before 9:30 am at 907-742-3730
- All students arriving after 8:15 am must sign-in at the office

Parent/Visitor Sign-in
- All parents, visitors, and volunteers who are going to be in the school after 8:30 am need to sign in at the office.
Opportunities
- We are still in need of several Noon Duty attendants at the school. Please go to the ASD website to apply if interested in these positions.
