Over the last few years, Kwik Trip, Inc. has offered the Milk Moola fundraising program to many organizations in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Effective at the end of March, Kwik Trip (Kwik Star) will no longer be offering this program.

Because of this change, we are asking that all 5¢ milk caps be turned in to the Clayton Ridge Elementary office no later than March 15th. This will allow us time to count and ready the milk caps to send off to Kwik Trip for their processing.

We would like to thank each of you who have donated to this worthwhile cause. Again, please get those caps sent to the office no later than March 15.

Third graders came to visit Mrs. Stannard's Room to play board games with 5th graders. Students communicated and used problem-solving.

Mrs. Henkes introduced Mrs. Reichard’s class to an amazing app today! Students learned about the MackinVia app. MackinVia allows students to explore the school’s eBooks on their iPads.

Super Speller awards were handed out today for students that correctly spelled 139 words or more out of 150!!!!! This is quite an accomplishment because they have many words to study each week and do not know which 25 words will on the test!! I am so proud of them!!! Keep up the great work!!

Clayton Ride Elementary Students enjoyed an assembly on January 24th called Forward Motion BMX. These riders showcase extreme athleticism, years of disciplined practice, and a positive attitude to inspire our students to find their passion in life. Tricks like back-flips, “supermans”, and jumping over teachers captivated our students’ attention. Riders also shared inspirational messages and asked students to think about their own futures and how they can become positive role models for their community.

Wishing isn’t all it takes to get what you want, as is the case when applying for a McElroy Grant; it takes time and effort to obtain.

Clayton Ridge High School recently received $999.00 from the McElroy Trust. The fund was established in 1965 by R. J. McElroy. He was the founder of Blackhawk Broadcasting Company of which KWWL Radio, KWWL Television and other broadcasting companies were a part. It was stipulated in his will that the money from the trust be used for “the educational benefit of deserving young people.”

Mrs. Nicole DeGidio, Instructional Coach and English teacher, and Family and Consumer Science teacher, Miss Angela Williams worked together to obtain the grant for the school. The grant made it possible for the purchase of a Swivl robotic camera.

“The camera system will be used for the Culinary Skills class,” smiled Miss Williams excitedly. “ The whole class will be able to see students preparing recipes from an overview, much like is done on the TV show, Cupcake Wars, and other popular cooking programs. The camera will show the cooking process from the student’s perspective.”

“There is one marker camera that follows the person around the room and four other markers to record audio,” explained Mrs. DeGidio as she demonstrated the possibilities. “A video is made, too, and can be edited for presentations later on.” The video will be edited using the Swivl app on an iPad and can then be uploaded and shared via YouTube and other channels.

Mrs. DeGidio became aware of the camera and its possibilities while visiting other schools last year. As part of her Instructional Coach position, she was observing technology used in other districts.

“The system also works with the Promethean Interactive White Boards that were recently purchased for some of the classrooms,” concluded Mrs. DeGidio. “Although the camera will be initially be used for the Family Consumer Science classes, other teachers and classes will be able to take advantage of the new device.”

It's Lego Day at Adventure Hour! Stop in and listen to a story, and then create items from the storybook with Lego building blocks and Lego people.
Grades K-5

Pajama Story Time - January 25 at 6:15 p.m.
Wear your jammies, bring a stuffed animal and join Miss Nancy for bedtime stories, games, songs, and a snack. Ages 3-8. parents are encouraged to stay with their child during this program.

Clayton Ridge Community School District has both a north and south campus. The northern campus is located in the midst of the rolling prairie of Garnavillo, Iowa and currently serves students in grades PK-5. The southern campus is situated among the picturesque Mississippi River bluffs and boasts a magnificent view of the mighty river and Lock & Dam 10 in Guttenberg, Iowa. The south campus serves middle school (6-8), and high school (9-12).
