Principal's Corner
Dear W.C. Petty Families,
As we dive into the heart of the fall season, our school is buzzing with exciting activities!
**Musical Melodies**: Our talented orchestra and band students have embraced the rhythm with morning practices in full swing. The marching band is gearing up for a spectacular appearance in the ACHS homecoming parade. Get ready to witness their musical prowess and school spirit on display!
**Dia de Los Muertos Coloring Contest**: Let creativity shine in our Dia de Los Muertos coloring contest! Encourage your child to participate and showcase their artistic talents. Pictures are due October 27th.
**Thrilling Moves**: Our entire student body is grooving to the beats as they learn Michael Jackson's iconic Thriller dance in PE. It's a thrilling sight to see our students embrace the joy of movement and music!
**First Grade Adventure**: Excitement is building as our 1st graders prepare for their first field trip to Stade's Farm on October 20th. It's sure to be an enriching experience, fostering a love for learning beyond the classroom walls.
Thank you for your continued support as we make each day at W.C. Petty Elementary a memorable one!
Warm regards,
Joanna Gerritsen

Attendance Policy (from the Family Handbook)
For students who are required to attend school there are two types of absences; excused and
unexcused. Excused absences include: illness (including up to 5 days per school year for
mental or behavioral health of the student), observance of a religious holiday or event, death
in the immediate family, family emergency, situations beyond the control of the student as
determined by the school board, circumstances that cause reasonable concern to the
parent/guardian for the student’s mental, emotional, or physical health or safety, attending
a military honors funeral to sound TAPS, attend a civic event, or other reason as approved
by a building administrator.
Students who are excused from school will be given a reasonable timeframe to make up
missed homework and classwork assignments.
All other absences are considered unexcused. Pre-arranged excused absences must be approved by the building administrator.
The school may require documentation explaining the reason for the student’s absence.
In the event of any absence, the student’s parent/guardian is required to call the school at (847) 838-8181 before 8:00 a.m. to explain the reason for the absence. If a call has not been made to the school by 10:00 a.m. on the day of a student’s absence, a phone call home will be made to inquire why the student is not at school. If the parent/guardian cannot be contacted, the student will be required to submit a signed note from the parent/guardian explaining the reason for the absence. Failure to do so shall result in an unexcused absence. Upon request of the parent/guardian, the reason for an absence will be kept confidential.

Information from the Technology Office
iPad Information
Student iPads have a district-approved case installed that cannot be removed due to the warranty on the iPads.
Each student was given an Apple cord and Apple charging brick. These now belong to the student/family. If these break, there are two options for families.
Purchase one from D34 ($19 for the cord and $19 for the brick).
Purchase a cord and brick from an outside vendor.
These cords and bricks belong to the student and will not need to be returned at the end of the year. If there is an issue and an item is not working, please contact your building administrator to get a different one as soon as possible.
Stickers and/or labels should not be placed on the iPad.
Please help with the expectation of having students charge their iPad every evening. It is very important that the student has a charged iPad so that class instruction time isn’t lost accomplishing this task.
The technology department has seen an increase in water damage to iPads. The cause of this seems to be water bottles in backpacks spilling. Please help your student to be careful with any water around the devices.
