Hispanic Heritage Month Assembly
Each year Red Ribbon Week is celebrated from October 23-31. Our school-based activities will take place during the week of October 23rd this year.
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program. Red Ribbon week started after the death of a drug enforcement agent in 1985. We encourage families to discuss with your children the importance of a drug free life and making responsible choices. Different virtual theme days are planned during Red Ribbon Week. Click here for details in the week's activities.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are conducted for families of students in Grades K-2. This is an opportunity classroom teachers to share updates on student progress in the areas of academics and social development. It also provides a one to one setting for families to share information and ask questions related to their child's school experience.
Student-Led Conferences are conducted in Grades 3-5. The students are expected to attend the conference with their parents and will be prepared to present information to their families about their academic and social progress in school. At any time in the school year, parents/guardians may also request conferences with the teacher without their child present.
On conferences days, the students follow a 1:00pm Early Dismissal Schedule. Elementary conferences are schedule for:
November 30th: 6:00PM – 8:00PM
December 4th: 2:00PM – 4:00PM
December 5th: 6:00PM – 8:00PM
December 6th 2:00PM – 4:00PM
December 1, 7, and 8 are FULL DAYS OF SCHOOL ~ No conferences on these days.
Please use the Genesis Parent Portal to Sign-Up for your conference date and time. All conferences should be scheduled by November 22, 2024.
Please keep in mind that the conference blocks are only 20 minutes in length which includes 15 minutes for the official conference and a 5 minute transition for the next family. On your conference date, be sure to arrive a few minutes early for your scheduled conference.
Family Life Curriculum
A letter from the district regarding the Family Life Curriculum(FLC) has been posted in the Genesis Parent Portal, and a message was sent to all parents on October 2, 2023.
In addition to acknowledging the form, parents will also be able to opt in or opt out of the Family Life Curriculum. The law allows for any parent who believes the FLC instruction is in conflict with their beliefs to opt their child out of the FLC without penalty. To opt out of FLC, you must check the opt-out box below this letter by Friday, October 20, 2023.
Keep an eye on the weather...
This time of year, the weather is often unpredictable. On any given day it may be chilly or warm outside, and it may be chilly or warm in a classroom. It is important to dress in layers and bring jackets, hats, gloves, etc.
We will make every attempt to get the children outside for recess and physical education during the months ahead. Indoor recess and physical education will occur when the reported wind chill temperature or precipitation prevent outdoor activities.
Please keep the following in mind as you prepare your children for school each day.
- Dress in layers and bring jackets/coats, hats, and gloves every day.
- Please label all clothing with your child's name in case an item is left behind during recess.
- Individual classroom teachers will designate activities available for indoor recess.
- Students are not permitted to use personal electronic devices during recess, and these items should not be brought to school.
- Students may not bring trading cards/toys to recess.
Thank you for assisting us with a smooth transition into the colder months and for helping us to prepare your children for an enjoyable recess period.

BE A GOLDFISH
Setbacks are part of the learning process. Remind your child that one small setback shouldn’t derail the whole day, week, or school term! It’s one data point. Challenges are simply opportunities in disguise. A bad grade or a missing assignment doesn’t define their NEXT step. The adults in our students’ lives need to emphasize resilience.
In the hit Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso, Coach Lasso taught his team the importance of being able to move on from a setback by urging them to “be a goldfish.” Goldfish, he explained, are the happiest animals on earth because they have a 10-second memory.
One of the most important skills we can teach our students is the ability to bounce back after a stumble. So, rather than dwelling on a tough day, take a moment with your child to reflect on what happened and then use it as an opportunity to grow. Your child’s journey to academic success is marked by their ability to understand the setback and then make their next step a step back onto the path to success.
