MLK Graduates (and former French students) Visit MLK
Two of Madame Weaver’s former students, Tabitha Robinson (née Johnson, 2011 graduate) and Kaagen Robinson (2010 graduate) visited MLK on 1/19 to tour the “new” building, which they had never seen, and with which they were very impressed, especially the language lab, the music wing and the library / Internet café. They also spoke to Madame Weaver’s French 3 Honors class about their own academic pathway, which had included AP French and positions as President (Tabitha) and V-P (Kaagen) of MLK’s French Honor Society, and the opportunities they have had to use the language and make new French friends via Sister Cities of Nashville’s (SCN) adult exchanges with Caen in northern France. Both grads commented on how they had been able to test up in French when they went to university because of their studies of the language at MLK, which helped them save time and money. On a romantic note, Tabitha and Kaagen actually met in French class and were married five years ago. They live in Nashville, where Tabitha is an attorney and Kaagen a marine biologist. Madame Weaver and French 3 Honors appreciated their visit and will be staying in touch, as two students from French 3 Honors will be going on SCN’s Student Exchange to Caen in June.

The School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt is Now Recruiting 8th Grade Students - Deadline February 10
We are looking for 8th-grade students who wonder how things work, who like science experiments, coding and robotics, medicine or psychology, who look up at the sky and wonder about the stars and planets, or who like to tinker around with things and build. Mathematicians, science Olympiad enthusiasts and any other STEAM-curious students would also be great candidates.
If your students have these qualities, please encourage them to think about applying to the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt. It’s a high school program for motivated students who are interested in STEM ideas and research.
Our website has all the information applicants need to learn all about the program and decide if they want to apply.
You can sign up to receive more information and reminders about the application deadline – February 10, 2023.
Please help us spread the word about this opportunity to the students in your school who are qualified candidates.

The 2023-24 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened on Oct. 1 for current seniors who will begin college in the Fall of 2023. Some states and schools have limited funds, so we do not want students to delay; the sooner it is completed, the better!
Additionally, for TN Promise eligibility, the application MUST be completed and submitted by March 1. The application and more information can be found here.

Schoology and Infinite Campus Grading Information
A Note about grades: Parents are encouraged to monitor their students' grades using Schoology or Infinite Campus. Schoology is the best place to look for grades because it is updated more often, and it is the only place where you can see materials and assignments. Teachers will transfer grades from Schoology to Campus at least twice a week. Grades for each quarter are finalized officially in Infinite Campus at the end of the nine weeks. Infinite Campus rounds grades using a different number of decimal places, so you might notice a discrepancy of 0.01% between Campus and Schoology. The final grade in Infinite Campus is the OFFICIAL grade.
Need Help with Homework?
Teachers are available to answer questions Mondays through Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is a free service to students in TN.
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.
When you call, text, or chat 988, you will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting you, provide support, and connect you to resources if necessary.
The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
