TREVITT ELEMENTARY WINS SECOND PLACE IN COLGATE BRIGHT SIMILES KIDS AWARDS Contest!!

NEW YORK, May 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- They showcased what optimism and smiles can do in words, deeds, and adorable formation, and in the end, students at Westbury, New York's Dryden Street School captured the 2022 Colgate Bright Smiles Kids Awards national title, a grand prize of $10,000, and hearts across the United States. Second and third place winners Trevitt Elementary School in Columbus, Ohio and P.S. 133 Fred R. Moore Academy from Harlem, New York were awarded $5,000 and $2,500, respectively.

Thanks to Dr. Bates-Principal, Ms. Hill-Counselor, Ms. Walder-Social Worker and some of the Trevitt students for making this Award possible.

Throughout the school year, the principals assume the commitment to lead our young people to a prosperous future. They support and guide quality teachers and staff, resulting in productive learning environments for our children. Whether they lead an elementary, middle, or high school, a principal shows leadership skills while being approachable. Many students see their principals as role models.

Principals guide academic success and set the tone for an entire school. In most settings, they are a visible leader, one the students and teachers see daily.

Teachers rely on principals to ensure the schools provide the necessary equipment and resources. They also rely on principals to counsel and discipline students when needed. A principal represents the school at community events and meets with superintendents and community members, too.

Hello! I am Ms. Rikki the school secretary. I have been the secretary at Trevitt since December of 2020. I am a recent graduate of Miami University, with a passion for working with children and providing meaningful relationships that will positively impact their development. "Our children are our greatest treasure. They are our future (Nelson Mandela)," is a quote that inspires me daily. I am the youngest of four children and purple/green are my favorite colors. Even though this is my last school year as Trevitt's secretary, I will always consider myself a member of the Trevitt Elementary School family. The memories I've made here at Trevitt will forever be cherished. I hope everyone has a great summer break!

May 2- 6 was Teacher Appreciation week.

Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated in the first full week of May, from May 1 through May 8 in 2022, and is when teachers get the extra credit they deserve. The big day is Teacher Appreciation Day on May 5, but teachers are just so great that they get a whole week to savor our appreciation. Whether you have a teacher, know a teacher, or are a teacher, there are endless ways to give a little extra support to teachers and teachers organizations. Teaching is known to be a time-consuming and challenging profession, so this week is our chance to say thank you to those that play or have played such a huge role in our lives. Who doesn’t have a fond memory of a teacher who inspired us in some way?

Teachers and staff at Trevitt Elementary had a wonderful week. They were treated with gifts and breakfast and lunch through-out the week. Our wonderful principal Dr. Bates treated teachers and staff with a delicious breakfast and treats during the day that week. Rock City Church and Mt. Calvary Holy Church did Chick-fil-A for lunch for teachers and staff. City Year did donuts for teachers and staff. Faith Clinic Community Church gave gift bags for teachers and staff.

Hello I’m Nakia Hall from Pittsburgh Pa. I’ve been in Columbus for 14yrs. I have two sons, a 3 yr. old granddaughter and a 10 month old grandson that I love dearly. The Steelers are my favorite NFL team. I’m an instructional assistant in the Special Education room. I have been working with children for 26 yrs for which I love. I love what I do, it’s my passion. I like spending time with family and friends. My hobby is reading books, having self care time for myself.

My name is Loretta Hayden. I'm an Instructional Assistant in Kindergarten/General Fund. I have been with the district for 23 years. I started out as a Parent Volunteer, that resulted in the principal wanting to hire me full time. I started working at Trevitt in November after being at Berwick for years .I'm married with 3 adult children and 6 grandchildren. I love seeing my results when my students succeed it gives me hope and make my heart smile when I see good results and makes their Parents happy!!

My name is Nihyae Jones, This was my first year with Columbus City Schools and as the Librarian at Trevitt Elementary School. I am a part-time student at Grand Canyon University to earn my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Some small things about me: I have a 5-year-old cat named Hazel, My favorite color is purple, and I love to read.

Hello, My name is Mr. Claude Bogan. I am the PEAK teacher at Trevitt Elementary. I’ve been working here for 3 years. Outside of work, I coach basketball at Linden McKinley High School. I am the head JV coach. Some other hobbies I do are personal skills training for basketball players, and I’m into fashion and do a little styling from time to time!

Hi everyone! My name is Ksenija Taylor or Mrs. K, and I am the PreK instructional assistant. I have been at Trevitt for five years. I am a proud CCS graduate and Michigan State alum. I enjoy building relationships with students and families in the community. Fall is my favorite time of year because of the weather and college football. :)

● For the 2022-2023 school year, our school will follow state mandated health screenings for students (ORC 3313.69). This typically includes vision and hearing, but may also include blood pressure, a dental screen, and body mass index (BMI).

● As a reminder to parents, both over-the-counter medications and prescription medications (including asthma inhalers and epi-pens) need a medication authorization form completed by both parent and health care provider. These forms are available online at http://www.ccsoh.us From there, select Departments, select Health Services, select Student Health Forms, select Medication Forms.

● It is extremely important that you complete and return all emergency forms prior to the first day of school.

Literacy/Math Night was a great success. Trevitt Faculty and staff would like to thank everyone for coming out that night. Thank you Mrs. Reitter for getting it all organized. You did a great job.

A fact about Memorial Day....

Have you been wondering how to boost your child's literacy and encourage his or her love of reading this summer?

Scholastic has partnered with Columbus City Schools to provide 25 books to each student!!! Five bundles of five books each will be distributed between now and the end of the school year to students at school. Look for them in your student's backpack!

Along with this FREE home library, fun learning activities have also been compiled by grade and housed on a shared Google Drive. Click on the grade level at which your student's teacher has indicated your student is reading. Make sure your student is confident and comfortable in the activities at that level before trying the next grade level. We realize each student reads at their own pace and level no matter what actual grade they are in. We want students to enjoy reading and have fun with the learning activities. Look at the slideshows, print off the fill-in-the-blanks, writing assignments, and ideas for fun activities. More content will be added in the coming weeks.
