Important Dates in February
February 5th - 9th - Digital Safety Week - (Dress Up Schedule Below)
February 14th - Valentine's Day and parties
February 15th and 16th - Parent/Teacher Conferences
Hello Ivy Families,
We'd like to thank everyone that came to our Multicultural Fair! We had over 25 nationalities represented and more than 30 families participating! It's amazing to see how diverse Ivy Hill really is!
We sent about 10 more bags of clothing to the school that we are helping in Chicago! We will be collecting elementary school sized clothing for one more week - through Friday, February 9th. Again, thank you so much for all your donations!
Please remember that EVERY CHILD needs to have a change of clothes in their backpack! Between the snow, the slush, the mud and the science experiments, accidents happen! We do not have enough space to keep all the clothing we need in the nurse's office. Please pack an extra set for your children and just leave them in their backpack!! We appreciate it!
The weather in Chicago has been crazy! Please remember that unless it is raining or the temperatures drop below 0 degrees (with the wind chill), our students will go outside for recess. Winter outerwear is very important! Be sure that you send your child to school with the proper clothing. ALL students need a change of clothes in their backpacks as well as an additional bag with all their "snow gear" if they plan to play in the snow. This includes snow boots, water proof gloves, snow pants, hat and coat!! Without snow gear, they will NOT be able to play in the snow!
.Registration for Kindergarten and NEW students has opened! Scroll down to see the link. Please remember that this is for NEW students only - our returning students will receive their registration link in May!
Our Ivy Hill PTA has so much going on - please click here for the latest edition of The PTA Happenings!
Stay safe, stay kind, and stay courageous!

SEND A CHANGE OF CLOTHES IN YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK
Anything can happen during the school day - no matter the age of your child! From being caught in the rain, to a failed science experience, things happen! Please pack a change of clothes in each child's backpack for them in keep in case of a "wardrobe malfunction"!
Be sure that all clothing items are marked clearly with your child's name.
WINTER WOES
Winter really dries out our skin!! If you know that your child is susceptible to dry skin and lips, please put a small tube of lotion and a chapstick in their backpack. Our nurses office is a BUSY place - we just do not have the personnel to constantly be putting lotion and vaseline on the enormous number of kids that come in every day!!
PLEASE REMEMBER TO CALL YOUR CHILD IN LATE, ABSENT OR LEAVING EARLY - EVERY DAY!
Digital Citizenship Week - February 5-9
The week of February 5th, District 25 will be recognizing the importance of Digital Citizenship and Internet Safety by having a Digital Citizenship Spirit week! Students get to dress up based on the topic we are covering for the day and will learn about the best ways to be kind, safe, and responsible online! Please find family resources to learn more about healthy tech use at school and home here.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Our 20 minute conferences will be held on Thursday, February 15th and Friday, February 16th. You should have received the link to our Sign Up Genius. Please sign up for a time to meet with your child's teacher to hear about all the progress they are making!
A Note from Ms. Prater, our Art Teacher
The art room is collecting still life objects like old toys (action figures, Hot Wheels cars/trucks , horses and other animals). If you have anything lying around your house that you'd like to get rid of, please consider placing them in the collection bin outside of the art room.
Thanks a million!
American Heart Association
Ivy Hill School is joining forces with the American Heart Association beginning February 19th. See the attached flyers to learn how to help your kids raise money for this very important organization!
Kids Heart Challenge is coming to our school soon! We have exciting things planned this year to get us moving, helping others and having fun. Get a head start by signing up today and helping your student choose a daily health challenge

I'll bet it's not lice! It is nobody's friend, but it is common in schools so I wanted to remind everyone of a few safety practices that we hope will keep Ivy Hill "lice-free"!! Click here for more information- please take a look and remind your children to find a different "favorite bug"!!
REMEMBER - YOUR CHILD NEEDS 24 HOURS FREE FROM VOMITING AND FEVER BEFORE RETURNING TO SCHOOL!

Parent/Student Handbook Reminder
I also wanted to take a minute to remind everyone to read through the student handbook as it has a lot of important information. A couple of quick highlights I wanted to make you aware of are below:
The possession and use of cell phones and other electronic devices, including wearables, are subject to the following rules:
Elementary students are expected to leave electronics in the “off” position and in their backpacks throughout the school day.
Except as required in class or extracurricular programs, students cannot wear the following items in school:
Hats, hoods, helmets, or headgear (except as a religious observance or if medically necessary).
Sunglasses (unless medically necessitated)
I know this might be an adjustment for some students, so please remind your child that they will have to take off their “wearable” watch and hats off once they are at school. Our teachers will be reminding students of these expectations throughout the first weeks of school.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
REVISION Calendar 2023-2024
Reminder that Monday, April 1, 2024, is now a Student Attendance Day. It was a Staff Only, School Improvement Day, but the weather emergency day used last Friday, January 12th changed Monday, April 1, 2024 into a Student Attendance Day.
We understand that many families may have already scheduled vacation plans that include April 1st. Please just plan to notify your school’s attendance line if your student will be absent. Absences for vacations on this date will be excused.
We do not need to make up the weather emergency day that was used on Tuesday, January 16th because we were able to utilize an eLearning day.
For your reference, linked below is an updated printable, one page, calendar.
BREAKFAST & LUNCH QUESTIONS
We have some new faces in our kitchen! Ms. Wisinski and Mrs. Hester are in charge of our food service this year. We will be serving breakfast and lunch daily to all of our students!
Breakfast will be served at 8:45 each morning - the cost is $1.75. If your child rides the bus, have them come directly to the commons when they arrive at school.
Lunch schedules change each week - Click Here for the menu. The cost for lunch is $3.25.
The easiest way to pay for breakfast and lunch to set up an account at MyMealTime.com. Call the office for your child's student ID number. You can also send cash. Please put the cash in an envelope with your child's name on it.
Download the Choosi app to help manage your child's account.
We’d love to hear from you!
