Street Parking on Sheridan Drive - Effective Immediately
Please help us keep our campus safe for our students.
Those of you who have been part of our school community for more than a handful of years know that we are always looking for ways to improve and streamline our parent traffic flow to accommodate the number of cars descending upon our campus each morning and afternoon. More importantly, the changes we make are to keep students, visitors and staff traveling around our building safe from harm. As our student population has increased, so have the number of drivers. As cell phones have become the norm, we have seen an increase in distracted drivers as well. Children in particular are unpredictable. We have had too many close calls reported by drivers and those crossing streets and our parking lot. The Willowbrook Police Department has received a number of reports as well.
As many of you have noticed this week, there is an increase in signage restricting parking on both sides of Sheridan Drive. There is no parking on either the north or south side of Sheridan Drive between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM on days school is in session. This village ordinance has been in effect since 2015 but has not been routinely observed by those traveling Sheridan Drive or enforced by the Willowbrook Police Department. Due to the uptick in complaints and reports of dangerous situations involving car and pedestrian traffic from visitors to our school and neighbors, this ordinance will now be enforced. It is my understanding that warning parking violations will be issued for a short grace period; however, actual tickets will be issued beginning late next week.
Please remember, student safety is paramount. The efforts of the Willowbrook Police Department are appreciated and we enjoy their ongoing partnership and attention to our school campus. Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding related to this community issue.
