You know what the happiest animal on earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? It’s got a 10-second memory. Be a goldfish.

Be a goldfish, whether we need to hear it or someone else does -- do not allow yourself to be defined by the criticism of anyone else. We all experience criticism, and we feel the impact of criticism. Experience it. Feel it. Use what is valuable from it. But, then, be a gosh darn goldfish and move on.

The last thing we need to do is dwell on the criticism. Holding on to it is only going to drag you down. Learn from it and move on. I can guarantee that criticism is going to come. Today, tomorrow, and next week, the criticism will be there. Find what you can in the criticism to help you improve, and then move on to your next decision.

Our work, our mission, is too important to let the criticism drag us down!

Week 3: Grateful Friday Challenge

Welcome one and all to the end of another week! We made it all the way to Friday and are a few hours from starting the weekend and having a few days to relax a little, and with the nice small dip in the temperature -- what a weekend it is promising to be.

This week, let’s do something new with a twist on some of our past favorites for the #SHSGFC. This week we are going to do a mash-up of a few oldies but goodies -- we are going to have fun finding funny memes and then slipping them to our colleagues with the stealth of the Positive Post-it challenge. This is going to be awesome!

So find a meme that inspires, encourages, or gives a laugh, then sneak it to someone who you think would enjoy it. Stick it to their door, place it in their mailbox, hide it on their desk, or pass it through a student… anyway you can think of, get the memes out there and the laughs circulating…

Let’s see how many smiles you can give with a meme.

With banners flying as we go…

Mrs. Reed's biology students are learning about the characteristics of living things. Students read a story about a student who had possibly turned into a zombie and then had to collect evidence from what they knew about living creatures to determine if the student was dead or alive. After the story, students went to the lab to apply their knowledge to different items to determine if each item was a living creature.

Mr. Hanley's freshman visited the IMC this week. Ms. Foor helped the students learn how to use Destiny while they were there. Destiny helped the students look for and find a book that they might be interested in reading. The students were able to locate and check out books they will be reading in class.

Mr. Duncan's AP Chemistry students are seeing how much information they remember about the periodic table. Students when through different properties and classifications on the periodic table during class as a group discussion. The students saw how much information they could remember cold as they reviewed these properties.

Mrs. Brunsell's Environmental Science students are studying thermodynamics. The students went outside for a relay race to simulate how energy is transferred. The first student was given a handful of rice, and the teams had to pass the rice from one person to another. As the rice (or energy) was transferred from student to student, some of the rice (energy) was lost along the way. The students returned to class and discussed how this simulation helped represent the laws of thermodynamics.

Mr. Maupin and our band program helped to host the Santa Clara Vanguard this week at SHS. At the end of the summer season, Drum Corps International World Class corps compete to earn the title of DCI World Class Champion. The Santa Clara Vanguard will perform this week at Lucas Oil Stadium in the World Championship. Thank you to Mr. Maupin for creating this experience for our band students to be able to work with this group throughout the week.
