Raider Nation Newsletter
Week of April 12, 2021
Dear Atholton Families,
I hope you all had a great, albeit short, spring break!
April is National Autism Awareness Month and it marks an important time for individuals, families, and communities to honor and unite for many reasons. It is the perfect opportunity to teach your children about inclusivity, that it is not merely a concept or an accommodation but a lesson in how we treat others. It is a horrible feeling to be excluded and there are gifts of friendship to be found in all of us. Acceptance is not simply to tolerate one another but to value our differences and to recognize the strengths that lie within all people. Please find out more about National Autism Awareness Month here.
Tomorrow will mark the arrival of our final group of students returning to hybrid learning-- our 10th and 11th graders -- Group A. Our Group B students will return on Thursday. We are so thrilled to welcome this final group and excited to have just under a third of our student population back in a hybrid format. A reminder that the earliest students may be dropped off is 7:30 AM.
Just a reminder of our student expectations:
Wear a mask (see photo below on proper wearing of masks)
Maintain social distancing
Follow ALL posted signs (one-way hallways/stairwells, etc.)
DO NOT SHARE materials
Wash hands/use hand sanitizer frequently
Be respectful of others and their personal space and health
As mentioned in the last newsletter, please complete the Digital Education Center (DEC) Student Interest Survey in Synergy no later than 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 14. The one-question interest survey will be used to facilitate planning and is not a commitment for the 2021-2022 school year. Additional information is available through the Digital Education Center webpage and DEC FAQs. For questions, please contact robert_cole@hcpss.org.

Class of 2021 Information
An email went out to senior parents last week asking for assistance to plan the upcoming senior celebration. HCPSS has authorized each high school to hold a senior awards ceremony and a senior celebration. The events must be held on the same day and take place at least two weeks prior to the graduation window. Therefore, Atholton will hold its senior awards ceremony on May 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the senior celebration will take the same day (5/7) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Just a reminder that the HCPSS graduation window is May 28 - June 4. Dates and time have yet to be determined. Once determined, families will be notified and those wishing to participate virtually will be given instructions on creating a video.
