Building Relationships
September 10, 2021
WELCOME BACK!
As one of our district initiatives this year, we want to place a special focus on the mental health needs of our students and staff. Every month we will have a different mental health theme which will be accompanied by building-wide activities linked to that particular topic.
For September, we will be placing emphasis on Building Relationships within the classroom. Fostering positive relationships with one another (students and staff alike!) is the foundation for strong, resilient mental health as we return to school this year. Positive relationships have the ability to open the doors to challenges we otherwise may have been experiencing.
Let’s start off strong and get to know each other better!
What's happening today...
Today is a day dedicated, solely, on building relationships, improving social comfort, and fostering trust and growth at WesTech. Research continues to support the concept that the safer and more connected students feel to the classroom and school community, the smoother their social, emotional adjustments are and the stronger their academic achievement is.
In your classes, you will break from academic instruction and participate in team building activities. These activities are fun and purposeful because they can also be tools for strengthening these relationships within your classroom. They can be good icebreakers for the beginning of a course or a way to build stronger ties with students you already know. Some involve a lot of teamwork and can result in stronger connections.
Have fun today! Take advantage of the break from instruction. Learn about one another as we embark on this amazing journey, together, in the 2021-2022 school year!
We are excited you are here! We missed you!
