OUR BENCH ON OWL HILL
There's a bench atop owl hill,
And i'm hiking up
Just one more time
To see the sunset with you.
The leaves are
Gold and
Green and
Brown, with acorns falling all around.
And not for the first time
On our way up
I stop.
Do you remember
Pirate ships and
Dinosaur teeth and
Eating chips?
The afternoons spent
Molding mud to clay,
Mornings spent watching
Old blue jays?
Sunscreen spray and
Old nicknames?
Picnics with frogs and
Old space days?
Scooters and
Jump ropes and
Basketballs?
Nothing but fun days
In the fall?
Orange popsicles and
Petrichor and
Flopping down in the
Great outdoors?
Broken hearts and
Startling songs?
For the first time
In a long time
The fog clears
And we can see
The bench on owl hill.
Sit down with me
One more time.
Let's watch the sunset
And lean on each other
Till the moon rises
And we walk down owl hill
For the last
time.
by Miranda Smith, original poem

BACK AGAIN
Little white lies
And strawberry skies
Promise I’d fight
For you
You kiss my hand
And say you understand
But really you
Don’t have a clue
Cause I’d crawl to the edge
Of the earth and back again
Just for the pipe dream
That we could stay more than friends
I’ve read this book before and I
Don’t like how ends
But you know I’ll keep
Coming back again
Sat on the porch
I love you more
Please don’t get bored
Of me
Cause I know your type
You just love for the high
You get your hit
Then you leave
But you curse all the girls
To love you like moths love a lamp
Rave of her radiance
Then ruin her on a whim
Just to fall back in my arms, your vicious
Cycle never ends
Cause you know I’ll keep
Coming back again
Maybe we’re both a little bit toxic
Cause I can’t move on and you can’t love with logic
Maybe my love life was doomed from the start
And you don’t intend to shatter my heart
But you do it all the same
Guess I’m the one to blame
But you twist your words
Keep me guessing at what you meant
Spoon feed me just enough hope
To keep me codependent
Never reveal where we stand cause baby
You thrive on the suspense
Cause you know I’ll keep
Coming back again
Say I’m done but you know
I’ll come back again
Kiss me once and I’m
Back again
by Abby Whitman, original poem
