Trussville City Schools - BOE Spotlight
Get to Know, Mrs. Erin Piper, Exceptional Education Collaborative Specialist
This week, we get to know Mrs. Erin Piper, Exceptional Education Collaborative Specialist for Trussville City Schools. Mrs. Piper has been in education for 16 years, 12 of those in Trussville City Schools. Before moving to the Board of Education in 2023, she served as Assistant Principal at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School for 3 years. Mrs. Piper was also a Special Education teacher at Hewitt-Trussville High School from 2010-2018. She was also as an Assistant Principal at McAdory Elementary from 2018-2020, and a Secondary Math Teacher at the Alabama School for the Deaf from 2008-2010.
Mrs. Piper holds multiple degrees including a Bachelor's Degree in Education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing from the University of Montevallo, a Master's Degree in Collaborative Education (6-12) from the University of West Alabama, her Certification in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama, and her Educational Specialist in Instructional Leadership from Jacksonville State University.
Since moving to her current role at the Board of Education, Mrs. Piper has had the opportunity to work alongside teachers and students at all grade levels. She collaborates with administrative teams throughout the district to meet the needs of diverse learners.
When asked her favorite memory working in education, she said, "one of my favorite memories is probably when TCS introduced facility dogs into our schools. I was able to attend training when HTMS received Bullet and seeing how the facility dogs are trained, specifically to work with students, was so interesting. I've always been fascinated with service animals, but seeing Bullet, Blanche, and Skye in action is so fun. They make such a difference with our students and staff! I enjoy thinking outside the box when it comes to problem-solving and creativity, especially when considering how to help students. Our facility dogs do just that!"
In Mrs. Piper's free time, she loves to read. She has also recently learned to crochet. Mrs. Piper and her husband, Josh have two children that attend Trussville City Schools. Avery is an 8th grader at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School and Amelia is a 3rd grader at Cahaba Elementary School.
We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Piper's leadership, experience and knowledge as she helps guide teachers and students in our Exceptional Education department!
HTHS Theatre Program Overjoyed by Contest Win
This week, Hewitt-Trussville High School was notified that Broadway Licensing Global chose their theatre program as one of 29 schools to be the first to perform the new high school edition of the hit Broadway play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. HTHS was the only school selected from the state of Alabama! Schools competed for the honor by making a video describing why their school is the most “magical” place to produce the Tony award-winning show. Congratulations on this amazing opportunity for our HTHS theatre students!
Cahaba First Graders Perform "Swamped"
The first-grade musical program titled "Swamped" was a delightful showcase of young talent and creativity. As the stage came alive with vibrant colors and lively tunes, the students transported the audience into the enchanting world of the swamp. Through catchy songs and lively choreography, the children portrayed the various creatures that call the swamp home, from croaking frogs to graceful herons and elusive alligators. The audience was captivated by the enthusiasm and dedication of the young performers as they sang and danced their hearts out, bringing to life the magic and wonder of the swamp in a truly memorable musical extravaganza.

Mysteries of Magnets: Cahaba Third Graders Discover!
In the bustling classroom of third graders, excitement fills the air as they embark on a journey of scientific discovery, delving into the mysteries of magnetism and static electricity. With eager hands and curious minds, they eagerly engage in a series of hands-on experiments. Using magnets to explore the invisible forces of attraction and repulsion, they marvel as objects dance and cling in unexpected ways. With fur rubbed against balloons, they witness the enchanting phenomenon of static electricity, as strands of hair stand on end and lightweight objects are drawn like magic. Amidst laughter and wonder, these budding scientists not only grasp the fundamental concepts but also cultivate a passion for the enchanting world of science.
