The Odyssey
February 9, 2024
From the Principal
Hello MQSCA Families-
We are asking that parents remind their children that hooded sweatshirts are not part of the uniform policy. This includes wearing hooded sweatshirts under a uniform shirt. Many parents ask why they cannot be worn, and the basic answer is the overwhelmingly majority of students put their hoods up and heads go down. It brings in un-needed redirections from the teachers and interrupts their teaching and thus loss of learning for the whole class.
The beginning of the Lenten Season begins with Ash Wednesday, February 14th. Since this is a day of fasting and sacrifice in the Catholic church, MQSCA and all other Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese have been asked to observe Valentines Day either before or after Wednesday. It has been decided that we will have our Valentines Day parties on Friday, to also coincide with the Valentines Day Dance.
The Lenten Season is a very important time of the year for preparation for the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, dying on the cross. Jesus' ultimate sacrifice is a great model of what a sacrifice can do for us. Giving something up or adding a new routine to our day, as a sacrifice, is meant to build a transformation through you, just like Jesus dying transformed our salvation in Him. Giving up candy, diet coke, or reading the daily readings, everyday of Lent, can lead to a transformation in you. It can create a change in yourself that you did not think was possible. I ask that we take some time leading up to our Lenten Season to discern what you would like to transform, within yourself!
In Christ-
Mr. Lee
Tardies at MQSCA
Student Tardiness is becoming a problem at MQS. This is a reminder that students are considered tardy at 7:50am. The last few weeks we have averaged 10% tardy rate, meaning 16 students a day are entering that classroom late.
We offer morning breakfast from 7:15-7:35 in the cafeteria. We are asking parents to make an effort to drop you children off prior to 7:35 if they need a breakfast.
