CATCHING UP WITH... The CVES Calendar
This Month at Canyon View
CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Principal's Notes
Dear Coyote Families,
It was another GREAT WEEK at Canyon View Elementary School! CV Assistant Principal Jamie Walsh kicked off Student Council with an information meeting for interested fourth and fifth graders. There was a buzz about campus as students discussed their campaign plans! Around the World Night was a great success. Attendees were immersed in the foods, clothing, customs and traditions from the various cultures that make up the diverse Canyon View Community. Coming up this month, we have Dine-Outs and the STEAM Festival! Mark your calendars so you don't miss out!
At Canyon View, we are already starting our planning for the 2024-2025 school year and we need your help! Please be sure to complete the Continuing Family Survey included below. In addition, here are some important dates to mark on your calendars:
Transfer Requests - beginning on February 1st at 8 am, we will accept transfer requests for students who live in the Poway Unified boundaries and would like to attend a different Poway school. This includes incoming siblings of current students, as well as students who have not yet enrolled. Transfer requests can be made on the Poway Unified website by clicking THIS link. The transfer window closes on March 31st at 5 pm.
Continuing Student Registration - from March 1st - March 31st, all parents whose current students will continue in Poway Unified for the ‘24-’25 school year need to complete online continuing registration. Look for more information coming soon.
New Student Enrollment - beginning on April 1st at 8:00 am, new student enrollment opens on the Poway Unified website. We are excited to welcome our new students!
More details can be found on the Poway Unified website at www.powayusd.com.
Let's Make it a Great Year Together,
Mrs. Erica Edmonston (she/her/hers)
Principal, Canyon View Elementary School
Continuing Student Family Survey
Due by January 28th for all students TK through 4th Grade!
It is hard to believe it but our district has already begun planning for the 2024-2025 school year! In an effort to help us provide the most accurate information about the number of students who will be returning next year, please complete THIS SURVEY no later than January 28, 2024. This will provide us with the number of returning students as well as those who will be leaving Canyon View Elementary and will ensure that your child(ren) is enrolled correctly in the 2024-2025 school year. Please submit one form per student.
Families do not need to complete the form for current 5th-grade students because they will be automatically enrolled in 6th-grade at their school of residence. This is NOT continuing student registration. Continuing student registration will take place March 1st-31st and is for ALL students enrolled in PUSD for the 2024-2025 school year. Visit PUSD Continuing Student Registration for more information.
Attendance Matters at CVES!
Bringing your child to school every day, on time and for the whole day is one of the most important ways you can support their success in school. Studies show that students with regular attendance have better academic and social-emotional outcomes.
Did you know that school funding is based on daily attendance rates? Every day that your child is absent - whether the absence is excused or not - results in reduced funding. Attendance rates at Canyon View and throughout the district are lower than pre-pandemic times. Lower funding means cuts to programs. We need your help! Please prioritize your child's attendance. Of course, we understand that there are unavoidable reasons students will need to miss school. If your child will be absent for three or more days for any reason, contact the front office to request an OCIS contract. This allows your student to continue their learning and ensures that funding for the school continues- it's win-win!
To report and absence or request an OCIS email or call our attendance hotline:

Garden Clean Up & Meet and Greet
Garden Volunteers Needed
Did you know we have a garden at Canyon View? We grow everything from flowers to vegetables and herbs, and even little bananas! All of our Coyote learners have an opportunity to participate in cultivating our garden and learning about all the different techniques to grow a thriving plant from a seed.
Our garden is 100% volunteer run and our garden is looking for a few parent volunteers per classroom to assist during these lessons. You don't need a green thumb to help out! If you're interested in helping, please contact Johanna at johannagh@gmail.com. Volunteers working with children need to be Level 1 cleared through the office. We can help guide you through the process!

TEAM CV Meeting
Coyote parents (members or not) are invited to attend our monthly Team CV meetings, especially if you are interested in learning what the PTO & Foundation do, how money that is raised is spent, or are interested in training or shadowing for a position on the board/s next year. Many of our current board members are graduating out with their 5th graders this year and having people who are comfortable taking over key roles is important to ensuring we maintain a strong partnership for our younger kids. Though formal childcare is not available, children are invited to attend meetings and sit in the room with parents. Meetings occur every first Thursday of the month at 6 pm in the Innovation Station or via Zoom. For Zoom info, please DM us to be added to the distribution list.
Our next meeting is Thursday, February 1st. Hope to see you there!
