Announcements From the Prince(ipal's) Desk
On Friday, February 9, 2024, we will have a Hat Day in memory of Coach Michael Neff. Please bring $1.00 to wear a hat and support the Coach Michael Neff Scholarship Fund for Athletes which will assist middle school and high school athletes in Watauga County who need help with equipment and fees related to sports activities. Coach Neff was a Physical Education teacher at Hardin Park School, coached middle school football, and assisted with a variety of sports and activities at Watauga High School.
School Counselor Appreciation Week
We appreciate your love, leadership, and dedication to our students and community! What a wonderful advocate for students and teachers! You’re the best! And the coolest!
PreK
Pre-K has been learning about winter. We read "The Mitten" and made our own mitten story to take home. We also made a special snowman snack.
Reminder that open enrollment for Pre-K (2024-2025 school year) opens February 1st. You can pick up applications at The Children's Council.
Kindergarten
Kinders learned about penguins and created research books and celebrated groundhogs day.
2nd Grade
In second grade this week, we worked with our science pals to predict how far we would make it around the track when taking 100 steps.
We also talked about the history of Groundhog Day and made our own predictions! We predicted that the groundhog would NOT see his shadow.
We made Groundhog Day puzzles while practicing adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers.
3rd Grade
3rd grade has enjoyed learning about space! One day we visited planets using Virtual Reality Goggles!
4th Grade
Fourth grade has loved being back for in person school to work on division, multiplication, area, and perimeter!
Art
We’re all happy to be in-person in Art class so we can get back to painting!
Battle of the Books
Our Battle of the Books teams are gearing up for their competitions in March. Our elementary teams consist of 13 fourth and fifth graders and our middle school team has 6 seventh graders. See Mrs London if you’d like to learn more information about this program and join in on the fun for next year. Also, a huge thank you to Mrs Diehl, Ms Davis and Mrs Critcher for their help with after school practices this year!
PE
Music
In music class, we are learning about sound! The kids are starting to experiment with some instruments- violin, xylophones, guitar, and piano. Fifth graders are learning the ukulele, and how to accompany themselves and sing. 6, 7th, and 8th graders are writing their own musical, with a goal of performance set for the spring of 2025. Some of the 7th graders are preparing for All-County chorus. I am really happy to be a part of your Green Valley community! More to come...
Middle School Softball Tryouts
Softball tryouts will be held at the small Optimist field on Monday and Tuesday from 3:30-5:30. Please announce in your classes. All athletes that have registered in Family ID as of tonight, have received an email with this information.
