The Sky's the Limit

In a few weeks we will end our second learning quarter, begin our winter break, and begin 2024. We are proud of the growth that many of our students are making and you are a major part of this accomplishment. Our AVID strategy for the month of December is the Socratic Seminar. This strategy is based on a text in which the teacher asks open ended questions to get students to think deeper. Through this process, students further develop critical thinking skills and problem solving skills. Students also provide evidence to support their responses. Please ask your student about the Socratic Seminar. You will see evidence of the Socratic Seminar throughout our school.

We also have several major events happening this month and want to make sure that you are in the loop. Please support us as our Congaree Chorus will be performing in the Town of South Congaree Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and some of our students will carry the banner for the Town of South Congaree Christmas parade. We will have our monthly School Improvement Council meeting on December 11. We will also have our annual Christmas sing along on December 15, which will also be an Early Dismissal Day and the day that we dismiss for winter break. Students will not return to school until Tuesday, January 3, 2024. Check the school website calendar, Notifications from Lexington School District Two, Dojo, and social media for more details.

Parents please come claim clothing left at school in our Baggage Claim/Lost and Found area. The closet has so many jackets, coats, sweaters, and shirts that the closet is now full. We will be donating ALL unclaimed items to a local charity when we dismiss for break.

SCDHEC recommends these safety tips to make sure your family stays safe this holiday season:

1. Make sure to follow the age recommendations for toys and games.

2. Take notice of warning and safety labels.

3. Plastic wrappings can be deadly for small children – discard them immediately.

4. When choosing toys, keep in mind that kids under 1 like to see, touch, hear and taste.

5. Small parts like removable eyes are choking hazards.

6. Stay away from toys with sharp points, edges, and wires that stab, cut or shock.

7. Never hang toys with strings, cords, or ribbons of any kind in cribs or playpens.

8. Teach older children to keep toys with removable small parts or sharp points away from younger siblings.

9. Worn or broken toys can cause injuries.

10. Check toys regularly for safety and durability.

11. Provide safe, hazard-free play environments both indoors and outdoors.

12. Toys can be a tripping hazard.
