Second Grade performs the "I Need a Vacation" musical for families. Thank you to Mr. Roberts, our music teacher, for providing accompaniment to our HES performances this school year!

What is a Makerspace? A makerspace is a collaborative work space inside a school, library or public/private facility for making, learning, exploring and sharing.

The makerspace concept is being added to our library and technology classes next year! We need donations of building toy/activity such as legos, magnets, gears, K'Nex, blocks, dominoes, Lincoln Logs, etc. Please send in the donations to the attention of Sarah Idman, School Librarian.

Morning Music Selection of the Week at HES!

Scheherazade is the young bride of the Sultan. She marries the Sultan in order to save all future young women who have married the Sultan and been treated very badly.. She tells the Sultan fascinating stories, leaving him in such suspense each night that he can't treat her badly the next morning in case he does not hear the end of the story. After 1,001 of these well-told tales, the Sultan decides to treat young women with the respect they deserve.

Rimsky-Korsakov, the Russian composer, wrote Scheherazade in the summer of 1888.

The music uses lots of tunes that describe exotic dances, mystery, and the far Eastern countries. It is typical of the style of Russian music of this time.

Creative writing in Mrs. Cleary's third grade classroom!

This creative writing project had the students write about their boat and life as a fisherman (or fisherwoman) as they learned about our local fishing industry.

'Finger Knitting' a ball of yarn that measured 345 feet!

Sophie, Chloe, Kate, Margret, Tiffany and Morgan (Ms. Crowley's classroom) showed off the knitting skills learned over the year and tested their new 'measuring tool' (with the help of a few classmates)!

PTO votes new slate of officers for 2018-19!

Introducing the new Harwich Elementary School PTO Board! We were lucky to have an amazing group of people step up this year to take on leadership roles serving the teachers, staff, and students of our wonderful school. Many thanks go out to the past board which included three incredible leaders: Alissa Dunford, Joy Jordan, and Meaghan Smith. We have BIG shoes to fill but we're going to hit the ground running and can't wait for a fantastic 2018-2019 school year! "Sun Safety" message from Nurse Fiocco...


With the summer fast approaching, the I would like to send out a reminder on how to practice sun safety.


  • Please apply sunscreen ( 15 SPF or higher) to your children before school, especially if they will be attending a field trip or be outside for an extended period of time. It doesn’t have to be expensive, the Equate brand sold at Walmart, recently received a very high rating

  • Make sure your children wear hats, cover-up clothing and sunglasses when participating in outdoor activities

  • Avoid direct sun exposure when possible between 10 am and 4 pm. Seek shade!

  • Lead by example and practice good sun safety yourself

2018 Bike Rodeo

Subject: 2018 Bike Rodeo

It is with great pleasure that we invite the Monomoy School System community

to the 2018 Bike Rodeo. The event will be held at the Harwich Community Center on

Saturday, June 23 rd , 2018 from 10am-12pm.

The event will include an obstacle course for bicyclists, ice cream, and certificates

for all those who participate. Volunteers will be on hand to conduct safety checks of

bicycles and police officers will be on hand to speak with youth about safe biking

practices. There will also be donated helmets for those in need of one.

This event is geared towards elementary and younger middle school students but

all are welcome! We hope to see you there!

Questions or concerns regarding the event can be directed to the Harwich Police

Department Mountain Bike Division.
