A Message from Nurse Catherine
Once again we have 0 cases of Covid-19 to report.
Many students are struggling with seasonal allergies and allergy symptoms. The next few weeks will be particularly bad with tree and ragweed pollen. If your child takes allergy medication make sure they are taking it before school. This will prevent symptoms.
Thank you everyone for your cards, flowers and kind words of appreciation for Nurse's Day. I am truly blessed to work at St. Mary's taking care of your children. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Enjoy your weekend

A Message from Ms. Whitten, Drama Teacher and Ms. Smith, Music Teacher
PK-K1
Our early learners have been moving mountains these past two weeks- literally! We are five steps into a story drama called, “How to Make a Mountain” by Amy Huntington. This week, our steps were “Freeze” and “Melt”. Students designed freeze-inspired costume pieces that allow us to go back in time and imagine what it was like when the earth was young. We even engaged in various body levels during the “melting” process- a crucial element of stage movement! Additionally, we have been practicing “The Feelings Song” for the spring concert. Look out world, we’ve got some feelings investigators on our hands! Families can find student resources for "The Feelings Song" here.
K2-1st
We have been diving deep into concert preparation season with our drama song, “When I Grow Up” from Matilda. We have gone through the character creation process, and have so many cool ideas for performance day! This process also allows students to take a deeper look at the clues that nonverbal communication can tell us for storytelling through games like “Freeze” and “Sculpture Garden”. Families can find student resources for the "When I Grow Up" here.
2nd-5th
Second graders have been amazing helpers this week! Some students have volunteered to sing “When I Grow Up” with their younger classmates and as a class we have joined the production preparation process by creating some surprise props for the 3-5th piece, “Revolting Children” from Matilda! In third grade this week, we even got a chance to explore how lyrics impact theme and movement for a song, in a class brainstorm discussion about how “Matilda” teaches young people about noticing and reacting to injustice. 3-5th graders are ROCKING the choreography in drama class and vocals in music class. Ms Smith and Ms Whitten are so proud of our revolutionaries! Families can find student resources for "Revolting Children" and "When I Grow Up" here.
Middle School
Our middle school students have been hard at work preparing for their 6th grade rock band performance and the first annual 7/8th ORIGINAL MUSICAL! Students have been separating into teams to prep all of the elements of the spring concert- from stage management, directing, marketing, ticketing, dramaturgy, design, and of course- performance!
Drama Club
Our first ever 2nd-4th drama club has been an amazing success! Students have formed ensembles and have started rehearsing pieces for our end of club performance share on June 8th. Just a reminder that there will be no drama club on May 11th, and in response our session has extended to June 8th!

Grade 3
Grade 3 students have also been working on persuasive writing. They got do write a speech about changes that would like to do or add to St. Mary’s or the world. Here are some suggestions they made:
- Library class twice a week
- Soccer field
- Basketball hoops
- A school bakery
- A class pet
Who knows, we may include some of these changes next year! Thank you for your suggestions Grade 3!
Grade 4
Grade 7
This week we did Julius Caesar and then his grandnephew Augustus and how Augustus was the first emperor of Rome. They explored their political policies and how they effected the growth of Rome.
Grade 8
Mr. Suriwinata led his students in an engaging inertia lab where he set up experiments around the classroom. One of the experiments consisted of placing two balls of different masses on the ground. Students were asked to bend a yard stick back and hit the ball. They then had to answer the following questions:
Do the same trial again for the next ball of a different mass. Which ball do you predict will accelerate more?
Why do we need to bend the yardstick the same amount back?
Which do you think would provide a more consistent force?
Students explored the following in this lab:
- Inertia and Mass
- Inertia of Direction
- Inertia at Rest
- Inertia and Friction
