ThunderRidge Weekly Update
Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful fall break! We couldn't have asked for better weather.
As we are heading into the second quarter of the semester, it is imperative that you keep up with your students' grades and attendance. There are only about seven weeks left before semester grades are finalized. If your student is struggling in any area, we have multiple support systems in place for them to get help. Please talk with them to make sure they are taking advantage of these opportunities (Access, Advisement, tutoring) throughout the school year. The schedule for the end of the semester finals will be completed and sent out in the next couple of weeks. First semester ends on December 21st, and grades will be entered into Infinite Campus on December 22nd.
SENIOR PARENTS
The year is going by quickly - May 16th will be here before we know it! Please make sure you are checking our website under the Seniors 2024 tab for important information.
Seniors are beginning to work on their Senior Projects, and we look forward to their presentations in April. You can find information about the Senior Project on our website. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.
ATTENDANCE
Classroom attendance is imperative to student success and achievement. By attending school, students have access to the resources they need to be successful in learning. Students that miss school on a regular basis fall behind and do not get the academic support that they need.
There are federal laws about attending school as well as district policy. Here is some information regarding attendance policies.
ELECTION
The November 7th election includes Initiatives 5A and 5B on the ballot. Here are some links to help with information regarding both initiatives.
TRHS would benefit from the following:
- Competitive employee pay
- Replace boiler(s)
- Replace theatre seats/sound system
- Resurface asphalt parking lots
- Install new IP intercom system for building
- Other capital improvements
Grizzly Gratitude Families
We want to extend a huge thank you to our Grizzly Gratitude Committee and families who catered food for our staff for parent teacher conferences. We genuinely appreciate all you do for TRHS!

Mindful Minute:
Why does taking a moment to breathe lower stress? Because when we're feeling stressed or upset, we are operating out of our amygdala, the part of our brain responsible for fight, flight or freeze. Breathing helps us access our pre-frontal cortex: the area of our brain responsible for managing our emotions, enabling us to respond, rather than react, according to what we value. When you're feeling upset, take a moment to breathe!

IB Update
Should Your Child Do IB?
As we begin course registration for the 2024/2025 school year, it seems like a good time to talk about the IB options available at ThunderRidge High School. As an IB World School,TRHS has opportunities that are not available at your average American high school and we want you to know what that looks like.
IB classes are college-level weighted courses offered to all junior and senior students at TRHS who want to challenge themselves as they prepare for university studies after high school. Similar to Advanced Placement (AP) courses, IB courses allow students to study at the college level in high school, culminating in an exam at the end of the year so that students can earn college credit. These classes can be done as single courses or as a part of the larger IB Diploma Programme. IB learners are students who want to learn more about how the world is connected and build for a better tomorrow.
The IB Diploma Programme is the premier college preparatory program for secondary students available worldwide. Students who complete the IB Diploma Programme earn an average of 15-30 college credits, are accepted to university at up to 2X the acceptance rate, and earn tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships.
If you would like to learn more about whether IB is right for your student please feel free to visit our TRHS IB Website here, email the IB Coordinator Mr. Risner at kwrisner@dcsdk12.org, or come to the IB presentation at the Academic Showcase at ThunderRidge on November 2nd.
