FINAL REMINDER: TCS Tax Renewal April 12, 2022
This coming April 12, 2022, we need your help. Your support of Trussville City Schools will help us preserve outstanding programs and continue to provide excellent opportunities for our students. Five important points to remember:
- A local school tax is expiring in 2022.
- This school tax has been in existence since 1992.
- The $4,000,000 generated from this local tax supports programs which receive zero state funding.
- Examples of outstanding TCS programs not funded by the state are band, athletics, clubs, and all other extracurricular activities, plus 25 locally funded teachers above the state minimum program.
- This is a tax renewal, not a tax increase or new tax.

Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat, Trussville City Board of Education President Mrs. Kathy Brown, and Trussville City Schools Superintendent of Education Dr. Pattie Neill signed a joint letter of support on March 28, 2022, showing unity for the upcoming city-wide tax referendum scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, 2022. The letter encourages residents to talk to friends and neighbors and "remind them of the importance of voting "FOR" renewing this school tax." Also, the letter states, in part, "This election is extremely important because the vote is to continue funding for Trussville City Schools by renewing current taxes that are expiring. We are writing this letter to help our citizens understand the financial significance to our school system, and to let you know this is a vote "FOR" continuing excellence in Trussville City Schools." Magnolia Students Prep One Another for ACAP
To support and encourage students to do their best on the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) tests, each kindergarten and first-grade class at MES was paired with a third, fourth, or fifth grade class. These kindergarten and first grade classes created posters and notes of encouragement and delivered these to classes preparing for the ACAP tests. "I wanted our younger students to know that they had a very important part in the success of our testing experience," Dr. Phyllis Faust, Magnolia Elementary Principal, said. Reflecting on this morale-building opportunity, fourth grade teacher, Anna Walker, commented, "We hung up the adorable poster the kindergarten students made for us! I loved seeing the younger kids giving my students high fives."
