December 4/4 de Diciembre del 2023
Message from the Principal
Dear Hilhi Families,
We made it to December! With less than two weeks to Winter Break, we are working to ensure students stay on track and strong until the end of the semester.
One way you can partner with us to keep students engaged is to support the HSD electronic device policy. Students should have all electronic devices (phones, earbuds) away during class unless instructed by the teacher or specified as an academic support. Please remember that your student should not be answering phone calls or text messages during instruction. This keeps them focused on their learning and connected with their teacher and peers.
We also have winter sports in full swing and after school tutoring available to all students each Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:00 in the library. It is crucial students remain caught up on their classes throughout December and January, as the semester ends on February 1st.
Finally, we want to ensure our families have what they need to be safe and healthy over winter break. If your family would benefit from a donated food box this season, please complete the request form below. If you have other needs, you can always reach out to your child's counselor for assistance.
We appreciate your partnership in ensuring our students excel!
My Best,
Cary Meier
Principal

Paying for College/Community College/Trade Schools - What is Financial Aid? When do I apply for Financial Aid this year?
Students and their families should complete either the FAFSA or ORSAA to be eligible for federal, state and college/university aid.
The Free Application for Student Aid or FAFSA is the form for US Citizens and Eligible Non Citizens. The completion of this form opens the opportunity for students and their families to receive financial aid from both the federal government and the state government along with college and university aid - This can be a great first step in paying for college - grants and work study.
The Oregon Student Aid Application or ORSAA is the form for Oregon residents who have undocumented status, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, and/or Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Though students will not be eligible for federal government aid (information from the ORSAA is not shared with the federal government), they are eligible for Oregon State aid and college and university aid.
Both student aid applications will open in December 2023. We still do not know the exact date, but will broadcast when we know. This is a change from the traditional October 1 opening. Both the FAFSA and ORSAA applications are going through an extensive revision to make the forms easier to complete (down to just over 40 questions from over 100 questions in previous years).
Students and families can register for accounts now (FAFSA registration ORSAA Registration) and be ready to apply in December. It can take up to 3 days for the account to activate - so do it now!
All students and their families considering education after high school (college, university, community college, trade schools) should fill out either the FAFSA or ORSAA as soon as possible when it opens in December.
Not sure which form to fill out for your situation? - check here
