NHS Mission Statement
Working together with the student, the parent, and the community, Northwestern High School will establish a strong foundation for lifelong learning by nurturing, challenging, and guiding all students toward their maximum academic, vocational, artistic, physical, social, and emotional potential.
Principal's Message
Dear Trojan Families,
I hope this message finds you well. On Thursday, October 26th, our students received their latest reports. We kindly request that you take the time to review your child's report and work together to establish a plan for any subject areas in which they may not be performing as well as we'd like.
To further support our students, we have dedicated time for intervention and tutoring. Every Monday, we have our Response to Intervention (RTI) sessions, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 4pm to 5pm, we offer tutoring. We encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities to help them succeed academically.
We would like to express our gratitude to each and every student who actively participated in Red Ribbon Week. Your support is invaluable in promoting a drug-free and healthy environment within our school community. We encourage all our families to maintain an open line of communication with your children about the importance of remaining drug-free.
Important Update for Tuesday:
On Tuesday, we have a special day planned for our students. Here's what to expect:
1. **2nd Year Students**: All 2nd-year students will be taking the PSAT.
2. **11th & 12th Grade Students**: Students in the 11th and 12th grades have a few options:
- They can take the PSAT, ACT, or ASVAB if they signed up for these tests.
- Alternatively, they can participate in a Job Shadow experience or College Visit Day.
3. **Select Seniors**: Certain seniors will have an opportunity to work on practice modules to help them prepare for the Career Readiness Assessment.
4. **9th Graders**: Our 9th graders are in for a Job Shadow Day. They have two options:
- In-person job shadowing.
- Online career exploration.
If your child is scheduled to take a test on October 31st, parents have the option to provide an early dismissal authorization note. On the day of the test, students should hand this note to their test proctor, and they will be granted permission to leave once their test is completed. Before departing the campus, students are required to check in with the attendance clerk.
We appreciate your cooperation and engagement in these valuable opportunities for our students. If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support.

Here at the NHS Media Center, we love to encourage reading, and celebrate those that we see reading a lot! Every month, we host a movie, popcorn, and drink day for our top readers of the month before. Friday was our movie for September, and we showed The Greatest Showman. Fresh popped popcorn and free sodas are always a hit! Reading is proven to help students do better academically in all areas!
