Dia de Muertos
Spanish AP/IB class researched Dia de Muertos. Students had to find the importance of these four elements: Calavera, Cempasuchil, Alebrijes, and Catrinas. They presented in class in the target language and had to create a tangible representation of the assigned element.
Hispanic Heritage
Dance Team Competition
Our dance team just had their first competition of the season on January 20th! Our team took home awards in the following categories: 1st Place Dance Trio (Dance Captains), 1st Place Dance Drill, 1st Place Character Dance, 2nd Place Pom Dance, 5th Place Hip Hop, and the award for "Most Enthusiastic" Team.
We also would like to recognize some of our Team Members who placed in Individual Special Events:

PE Class - Upcoming Physical Fitness Test
PE students will start focusing on fitness activities to help prepare them for the Physical Fitness Test.
The Physical Fitness Test measures six fitness areas:
Aerobic Capacity (Mile run)
Body Composition (BMI)
Abdominal Strength and Endurance (Curl-ups)
Trunk Extensor Strength and Flexibility (Trunk lift)
Upper Body Strength and Endurance (Push-ups)
Flexibility (Arm Hang)
As a parent, here's what you can do to help prepare your child:
Biliteracy Competency Test
Would you like to earn a medal just for speaking Filipino or Arabic? Well, juniors and seniors, please check Parent Square in your email and apply to take the Biliteracy Competency test in either Filipino or Arabic. Applications are due Friday, February 16, so don’t delay. Please see Miss Valera in R210 for further information. The test will be held on Saturday, March 2, at the District Office.
Senior Class - Graduation Essentials Order Now!
Rowland HS Seniors, Congratulations to the Class of 2024! YOUR YEAR IS HERE! It’s time to order your senior grad essentials like your graduation ring, announcements, name cards, cap & gown, and more. Jostens will host a family night on Wednesday, February 7th, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. @ Hideout. If you can’t attend the family night order, Jostens will also be on campus during lunchtime on Wednesday & Thursday, February 7 & 8, to assist you in placing your order. You can also order online at www.jostens.com. You will receive your grad packet on Monday, January 29th. You can pick one up in Student Activities if you have not received it.

Attention Rowland HS Juniors: It’s time to order your Jostens Class Jewelry! You will receive your ring packet from Jostens on Monday, January 29th. CIEE Summer Program - Extension for Scholarship Application
There has been an extension to apply for a scholarship to study abroad in one of CIEE’s Summer Courses in Language Immersion, STEM, Business, Social Change, or the Arts. The new deadline to be considered for a scholarship is Tuesday, January 30, at 11:59 pm. Reach out to Mrs. Kelli Reese if you have questions or need help with the application. After January 30, CIEE will still accept Direct Enroll applications.

Financial Aid Event @ Mt. SAC this Saturday
Seniors! Get FREE help from financial aid experts with your 2024-2025 financial aid application at Mt. SAC’s Cash for College event on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024!
High school seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend this event to obtain assistance with completing the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Expert staff will be available to answer all of your financial aid application questions! Complimentary meal provided for attendees!
Note: All seniors who are attending ANY college (4-year or 2-year) are invited to this event.

4-year College Next Steps for Seniors
- Create college portal accounts for each 4-year college to which you have applied.
- Check your personal email and college portals weekly.
- Respond to college email & portal requests by their deadlines.
- Your admissions applications may be withdrawn if you don't respond and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
Important UC Information: Applicants must notify the UC Application Center with changes to their academic record such as: 1) Changing schools, 2) Adding or dropping courses, or 3) Failing to earn a C or better in a course after submitting the application. Click here for more information.
Keep working hard in your classes and do not drop your core classes. The college expects you to complete courses listed on your application with Cs or better. If it is absolutely necessary that you change your schedule, it is your responsibility to notify each college admissions office and explain your decision to drop.
