Vikings Put in the Work!
Viking Family,
I grew up in a home where both of my parents worked really hard to provide for me and my twin sister. Today, we call multiple jobs side hustles, but I think my dad probably invented the term. He was always willing to go the extra mile, find the extra job to make sure my sister and I had what we needed. Iβm grateful for his and my momβs example, because I value a strong work ethic and truly believe hard work pays off.
Coach Jason Carnley, our new girls soccer coach, was wearing a shirt that read HWPO this week. I stopped him and asked about it, and he said it stood for Hard Work Pays Off. Itβs a motto that he believes in and is trying to instill in our student-athletes. He lives by those words and wants our students to understand their truth. I love it!
In todayβs fast-paced world, the ability to work hard, stay committed, and push through challenges is more important than ever. While natural talent and intelligence are valuable, it is often perseverance, dedication, and a strong work ethic that make the real difference. Many of us are proof of that! These are qualities that not only help students achieve their academic goals but also prepare them for lifeβs challenges beyond LVHS.
As I look around our school, I see many students putting in the hard work. Our cross country kids log anywhere from 2 -7 miles each morning BEFORE a full day of school. Our band students have been working in this Texas heat since August. Anyone thatβs attended a home football game can appreciate the hard work our Viking Broadcast students are doing. I met a student last week who was going home to work after a full day of school. He owns his own business tutoring people online in Japanese. Yesterday, I signed a college visit form for Aiden, one of our seniors who plans to become a commercial pilot and is only about 25 hours away from earning his private pilotβs license. Clearly, these students are putting in the work!
At LVHS, we are committed to fostering these values in every student. We encourage our students to set high expectations for themselves, to remain resilient when facing obstacles, and to understand that success is often a result of consistent effort. Developing a strong work ethic will not only lead to better academic outcomes but will also build character, self-confidence, and a lifelong belief that hard work pays off.

DID YOU KNOW?
Texas' Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) is the financial accountability system for public school districts. The system is administered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and actively promotes fiscal responsibility, transparency, and the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.
Each year, public school districts in Texas receive ratings based on 19 meticulously evaluated financial indicators, measuring practices such as fund balance, debt management, and financial stability. TEA derives these ratings from audited financial statements and submitted financial data, providing an objective measure of financial practices.
We are proud to share that Lago Vista ISD has received the stateβs highest rating of βSuperior Achievementβ for the past 12 years, scoring a perfect score of 100 for the last two years. Achieving this status is a testament to Lago Vista ISD's continued commitment to being excellent stewards of public funds.

- Track progress from PSAT 8/9 through SAT.
- Get insights into areas they need to work on to prepare for the SAT.

Learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT here.
All LVHS students in grades 9-11 will take the PSAT on October 23. You don't need to do anything to sign your student up. We have loaded BlueBook on all school issued Ipads and purchased digital tests for all students.
You can help by reminding your student get a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast before the test, making sure Ipads are charged and ready to go, and encouraging them to take the practice test between now and test day. Please reach out to Ms. Kinslow with any PSAT related questions.
