North Syracuse Central School District's Electronic News
Issue #93 | June 9, 2023
Hello North Syracuse Central School District Parents, Guardians, Teachers and Staff,
Today, I had the pleasure of being part of our annual Cicero-North Syracuse graduation walk events for the Class of 2023. I visited Allen Road and KWS Bear Road Elementary as their former students went back to the place where it all started for them. It was heartwarming to see the grads return to their elementary schools, and the reactions were priceless! Smiling faces and nostalgic memories filled the hallways as they embraced their roots once again. I even got in on a class picture recreation with Mrs. Storie's former kindergarteners.
The students at Bear Road even took time to visit the school’s new playground and try out the equipment. It was fun seeing the contrast between their younger selves and the young adults they’ve become. It's moments like these that remind us of the remarkable journey our students have taken and I’m honored to be a part of those steps.
Speaking of momentous occasions, we've recently had a series of great events, concerts, and celebrations that have truly made this year one to remember. From the first-ever Rising Rox Stars showcases to the fun-filled Roxie's Fun Fair, our community has come together to create lasting memories. These gatherings have showcased the incredible talent, dedication, and spirit of our students and staff.
We definitely had a memorable week as smoke from the Canadian wildfires impacted our community. I can definitely say I’ve never had to make a call on canceling events due to smoke before. While I know it is disappointing that some events were canceled or postponed, we will create new opportunities to honor the achievements and milestones of our students.
Enjoy the waning moments of the 2023 school year.
Sincerely,
Daniel D. Bowles, Superintendent of Schools
C-NS students learn lifesaving skills during Adulting 101 class
Do you know how to use a fire extinguisher or treat a bleeding limb? Some C-NS students do thanks to the Adulting 101 class.
Students in Allison Salisbury’s class recently took part in some hands-on training. The students were separated into two groups. One worked with the Cicero Fire Department to learn how to properly use fire extinguishers. Firefighters even created a controlled fire for the students to extinguish! The other group worked with NAVAC members. They used pool noodles to simulate a bleeding wound and learned how to properly apply bandages to create a tourniquet. The class also participated in a NARCAN informational session.

Learning about health and human service careers
Deciding your career path can be a daunting task. That’s why CNS Career Center Advisor Erin Deaver recently hosted a panel of medical experts to talk to students enrolled in the health and human services program.
Representatives from Upstate Orthopedics, Upstate Medical University, Utica University, and Wegmans Pharmacy spoke about their careers and answered student questions. They also brought a variety of educational materials to share with the students.
The health and human services program is a Family and Consumer Sciences elective available to sophomores and seniors.

French students enjoy weekend trip to Montréal, Canada
Fascinating, amazing, diverse, bonding, wondrous, and exciting - that’s how some CNS French students are describing a recent field trip to Montréal, Canada. It was the first time in almost a decade that a field trip to Canada has been organized.
It was a whirlwind trip which included visits to the Pointe à Callière museum, scenic overlook Mont Royal, the BioDôme, and a walking tour of the city.
