Spelling Bee
Wonderful news! We currently have 18 students signed up for the Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 8 at 5:30 p.m. I am so very excited for this great group of students. There is still time to sign up! The deadline is Tuesday, February 6.
I am hosting a competition “rehearsal” on Wednesday, February 7, 3-4 p.m in my classroom. Anyone participating in the Spelling Bee is welcome to attend, they don’t have to be a member of the spelling club. Please let me know if your student will attend. Send me an email (mcox@cpsk12.org) stating your child’s name and homeroom teacher. I will need to give the office a final list by noon to assist with dismissal. I have given students on my list a letter with this information and about the procedure for arrival on Thursday.
ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND THE SPELLING BEE! Since I will be retiring at the end of the school year, I am feeling both excited for the students and sad knowing it is the last time I will sponsor this event. I have enjoyed every minute! See you at the Bee!

Unit B
It is time to make Valentine’s preparations! We sent home a list with student and staff names. If your child is going to bring Valentines, you must bring one for every child in your homeroom. After that you may bring Valentines for any child in Unit B that you would like to, along with any school staff and faculty.
Unit C
In health, we are working on Safety Education. Students are finishing up a lesson on Consumer Safety. They learned we have five rights as a consumer: The right to safety, the right to be informed, the right to be heard, the write to have problems corrected, and the right to consumer education. In your everyday activities or discussions, please point out these rights as a consumer. I used the example in the recent news of the apartments that lost power and water during the cold snap and how those residents were or were not helped.
Specialist News
Hello Ridgeway Families,
This has been a great year, and I love interacting with the students every second. As a reminder, in every class period, we will work on a physical activity skill. The primary learning theme will be a warm-up, using 2-3 activities and a cool down and mindfulness section.
Learning objectives after we had winter break:
We re-established routines, procedures, and expectations. We have started our dribbling with hands unit. We are learning different dribbling skills – walking, running, change of direction, change of pace. We have used drills to warm up and learn, then fun games to apply these skills. We have added in practicing shooting, but not as much as you need to know to control a ball and dribble before you can be a great shooter.
Learning objectives in the next few months:
I will review and assess again for each student on locomotors, jumping, jump rope, catching, throwing, striking, and volleying. This is so I can see improvements or where a student may need more help in certain areas of their physical education skills. We will start our dribbling with feet after we have assessed all previous skills.
Please remember to have your kids wear athletic shoes so they can run and move.
