Principal's Note
What a couple of super cold days we've had! I want to start by expressing my appreciation to all of you for your patience during the pick-up and drop-off line. I understand that driving can be complicated due to the amount of snow and ice, but I am grateful to all the parents who patiently wait for their kids in the car as our teachers do their best to ensure their safe transfer to your vehicles.
I also want to extend my appreciation to all the bus drivers who have been carefully driving our kids every day. And a special thanks to our amazing crossing guard, Ms. Ruthie, who brought her own shovel this week to ensure our students' safety while crossing the street.
Finally, I want to express huge appreciation to Tess Weinheimer and the rest of the SCO members for providing an Indoor Recess Bucket full of games and activities to each of our classrooms. Thank you so much for your investment, dedication, and understanding that students need fun activities during the cold winter indoor recess.
As a reminder, all students are expected to participate in recess if the temperature is above 1°F. Please take a moment to review our weather guidelines for outdoor and indoor recess. It is important that students wear appropriate winter gear when outside, which includes winter boots, pants, coats, hats, and gloves. We had many students visit the nurse's office crying because their hands, feet, or legs were cold due to inadequate winter gear. If you need support ensuring your student has all the appropriate gear, please contact our Internal Social Worker, Claire Bergman, at cebergm@sunprairieschools.org.
Thank you so much again for trusting us with the education of your students every day.
Un abrazo
Mrs. Bell

Winter Rules and Guidelines
Weather Rules: The school district provides recess to give students time to play and exercise. All students are expected to go outside during recess. It’s important that parents/caregivers assist their children with dressing appropriately for the day’s weather.
If a student needs to remain indoors when coming back to school after an illness or injury, please provide written verification from your child’s health care provider.
Students will stay indoors during inclement weather or when the air or wind chill temperature is at or below 0°F. The school principal will check local weather websites for temperature and wind chill factors. School administration will also limit outdoor activities anytime there is a heat advisory and eliminate outdoor activities when there is an excessive heat warning. Please refer to our website for School Delays & Closings.
A Note from Mr. Fechtner
Snowshoeing and Skiing
Hello MV Families.
Next week, we will be snowshoeing and skiing outside. Since we will be moving in the snow, a jacket is required, and is recommended they bring hats, gloves, snow pants, and boots.
If you need support to make sure your student has all the appropriate gear, please contact our Internal Social Worker, Claire Bergman, at cebergm@sunprairieschools.org.
Thanks,
Mr. Fechtner

Discounted Summer Programming at Lussier Center!
Dane County Parks is so excited to be hosting its first full summer of camp at Lussier Family Heritage Center. To make our camp more inclusive, we are offering fee assistance to cover the cost of a week of camp. Families may apply for full tuition coverage or partial. We are hoping that this opportunity will allow for a child’s dream of going to camp a reality this summer!
They will not ask for proof of income or government assistance through the process. They will begin reviewing and offering fee assistances starting Feb. 1st and on a rolling basis until all spots are full. This program is supported through the Land and Water Resources Department and the Foundation for Dane County Parks.
