Let this serve as notice that special education records of students who graduated or exited from Essex High School between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2016 are being destroyed. Anyone who would like their records should call the Office of Student Support Services at 802-857-2007 prior to June 21, 2023 to make arrangements to pick them up.
June Inclusive Holidays and Celebrations on the EWSD Calendar
In June we recognize the following:
Early June also brings with it Shavuot (June 4-6), or the Feast of Weeks, which has agricultural and biblical significance for the Jewish community. June 8 holds Corpus Christi, a Christian festival held on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, and June 12 is Loving Day, which marks the date in 1967 that the United States Supreme Court struck down laws in several states that banned interracial marriage.

Life Cycle of a Chicken
Hiawatha 2nd graders are learning about the life cycle of chickens! Recently, they checked to see if there was chick development within the eggs in their classroom. By holding a flashlight under the eggs, students were able to see whether there was no development at all, partial development, or the beginnings of a chick.
Creative Collaboration
ADL's Creative Writing Club collaborated with CTE Design and Creative Media to publish a literary/art journal. ADL students worked on the content while CTE student, Shai Barber, and instructors Deanna Vaida and Eileen Sinopoli, created the journal to house the incredible student work! https://bit.ly/42g4Lcr

In front of Hiawatha, yellow tulips are in full bloom as part of the Yellow Tulip Project at ADL. Students from ADL planted these tulips last year with the goal of smashing the stigma of mental health and increasing mental awareness by promoting hope and positivity one day at a time. Hiawatha appreciates ADL for giving them the opportunity to be part of this important project.
Book Jacket Redesigning
Students participated in the Design and Creative Media Bookjacket Design Project where they were challenged to redesign an existing bookjacket. This year, categories and winners were - Designers Choice: Jonathan Rakoto Razafy (Slam), Librarians Choice: Lucia Clark (Serafina), and People's Choice: Jay Leuschner (Dune). The book is then circulated in the Essex High School Library's collection.
