Take care and stay safe,
Dr. Harrison, Principal
Congratulations to our Dragon Kim Finalists and Fellows!
Project Name: Building Wall Street
Project Members: Carson Carter and Artin Rastegar
Our project aims to teach financial literacy to underprivileged students through practical, hands-on engineering projects. When students complete the engineering projects, they learn financial literacy skills such as spending, saving, and investing alongside them because students will be forced to invest their money to purchase supplies for their projects.
We had an interview with Dragon Kim, but were not accepted as fellows this year.
Project Name: Senior Sync
Project Members: Arnav Sheth, Rayan Garg, Siddarth Pullela (University High School)
A series of informational technology classes designed for senior citizens. Starting from using a device, connecting to the internet, and eventually teaching how to securely and safely access essential tools and sites such as financial institutions and healthcare, which are needed in their daily lives. Additionally, we will focus on teaching senior citizens how to safeguard themselves from online threats such as phishing and cyber-attacks. By bridging the technological gap between generations, our curriculum will be designed to boost both their safety and technological literacy, thus enabling them to utilize online resources for their daily necessities and opening a new door into other hobbies and interests.
We were accepted into the fellowship.
Project Name: The Flight Learning Lab
Project Members: Ryan Yahn and Cooper Mayhew
Our project, The Flight Learning Lab, is a 4-6 week summer course for upper elementary and middle school students in areas without pre-established STEM programs. Throughout these 4-6 weeks, participants would learn valuable STEM skills through our curriculum, which includes the science behind flight, learning to 3D model and program, and going through the engineering design process when constructing their own model remote-controlled plane, which they will eventually be able to fly at a model airfield at the end of our course.
We were accepted into the fellowship
Project Name: BrandYOU
Project Members: Aryanna Martinez Ortega and Rayan Rouhizad
BrandYOU supports young future entrepreneurs in underprivileged communities by providing them with networking and marketing skills to help them pursue their dream careers and build a brand for themselves.
We were accepted into the fellowship
Who We Are
The Tide Times is Legacy Magnet Academy’s first student-led newsletter.
The idea blossomed during COVID-19, when our Editor-In-Chief, Kavya Thakrar, observed a heightened need for social connection. People were separated, school was at a slower pace, and FaceTime calls and messages became a regular occurrence.
But when things returned to it’s (somewhat) normal state, the speed that we lived in during quarantine accelerated. The question of “what college do I want to go to?” turned into “how am I going to get into that college?” It was a wake-up call for many.
While it may have felt like a lonesome process, many other people of all ages went through the same situation, not only questioning things like college but prompting deeper questions about the future.
That’s where The Tide Times comes in… a platform for students to communicate with other students through the art of articles, embodying our slogan: for students, by students.
We hope you enjoy surfing through our sea of stories.

Brooklinn Good
Hello! My name is Brooklinn Good, I'm 5ft TALL and I'm a senior here at Legacy. I like to view myself as someone who maintains a great perspective on life because I'm always looking up. I love taking fun photos on my digital camera to create lasting memories and I enjoy laughing and making people laugh. I like eating good food (the spicier the better), trying new things, and spending quality time with my family and friends. After High School, I plan on doing some type of trade school or community college. I really like business, marketing, and web design but I also like the idea of working in medicine so I'm shifting toward one of those for my major. I have definitely learned a lot from being at Legacy, but one thing in particular that I'm going to take away into the future Is that if you work hard towards your goals it will happen and anything can be possible. I'm really excited about my future because even though school and work are really important I'm really excited to start living my life, traveling to different places in the world, and meeting new people. In 10 years I would like to see myself running a business, maybe having a family or being married to the love of my life, and doing the things that make me happy, that includes being happy with most of the decisions I made in that 10-year period.
Hugo Okazaki
Hi, my name is Hugo Okazaki. My favorite thing to do is to eat and sleep. I especially love tomato pasta and chicken. I plan on staying in California and going abroad later in college. One of the main things I want to do is to start a business. My backup plan is to go to IVC, but my favorite dream college is UCSD. I want to go there because it has nice weather and is a very beautiful city. I plan on majoring in mechanical or biomedical engineering. I am leaning towards specializing in mechatronics and getting a bachelor's degree. From Legacy, I am taking the business and marketing aspects from Legacy to help me with my future business. Currently, I am feeling locked in right now because I have a backup plan for IVC and IVC never fails. I also believe that I am lucky enough to have the ability to live at home, but I hope to save enough money to go abroad. Looking 10 years into the future, I see myself retired and doing whatever I want to. I would be financially living off of my business and focusing on hobbies and skills that I always wanted to learn.
