Spring Break is officially here, kids now have the chance to wake up later and spend the day having fun. For parents, this brings on the stress of having to figure out how to keep your kids entertained and busy. Here are some fun activities that you and your family can do at home for a Spring Break staycation!
- Go camping in your backyard. Pitch your tent, dust off those sleeping bags, and spend the night under the stars roasting marshmallows.
- Have your kids pick out their favorite flower, fruit, and veggie seeds and start your spring garden.
- Have a movie night. Pick up all your favorite movie candies and popcorn and cover the floor in comfy blankets and pillows.
- Plan an afternoon at your local park. Pack up your picnic lunch, grab some kites, balls, and spend the afternoon outside playing.

Bring out your green!
St. Patrick's Day is observed on March 17th and is packed with parades, good luck charms, and everything green. St. Patrick's day started as a religious holiday, but over time it has become a celebration of Irish culture.
Why do we wear green?
Leprechauns are actually one reason you’re supposed to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day—or risk getting pinched! The tradition is tied to folklore that says wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns, which like to pinch anyone they can see. Some people also think sporting the color will bring good luck, and others wear it to honor their Irish ancestry.
Another tradition includes many Irish-American people in the United States eating corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day. People also gather to watch parades of traditional Irish dancers and musicians as they march through city streets. However you celebrate, here’s hoping it’s a lucky day!

ACE Family Events
A BIG thank you for all the support we have gotten from ACE parents for our family events. Family Engagement is imperative to the success of your students and at ACE it is something that makes our program stand out from other after-school programs.
Research shows that family engagement is a big factor in student success. When you become involved in your students schools you are paving the way for them. Positive family engagement and interactions has shown to improve students’ grades, attendance, persistence, and motivation.
Here at ACE we appreciate all that you do for your student and want to build a partnership to help your student blossom and grow!
We will not be having a family event in March but look forward to seeing you at our last ACE family event for this school year in April, where we will be hosting the EARTH Celebration ACE Family Picnic.
We will be providing more information the closer we get to our April event. Please note that this event will be hosted outdoors. If you have any ideas on activities for the event and are interested in volunteering to facilitate those activities please reach out to your school site coordinator.

How to Celebrate Women's History Month at Home
Celebrating Women's History Month at home reinforces lessons learned in school and also emphasizes the importance of honoring and respecting women.
- Play a game
Turn family game night into a celebration of women's history. Together, research facts about famous women, such as poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou and Helen Keller, an educator, advocate for the blind and deaf, and co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Then write them down on scraps of paper and play "Guess Who?"
- Read together
Reading books starts conversations with your children about Women's history month. Some of the books Kiddie Academy is recommending for Women's History Month include Kamala and Maya's Big Idea (Meena Harris), Ambitious Girl (Meena Harris), I Am Enough (Grace Byers), She Persisted (Chelsea Clinton), and Ada Twist, Scientist (Andrea Beaty).
- Write book reports
Older children can pick out a book or poem written by a female author, such as Emily Dickinson, and write a book report. In the report, you can also ask the child to write a bit about the author.
- Show gratitude
Women's History Month isn't just a celebration of famous women, but it's also a celebration of the women in our lives. Have children write thank you notes to women who have helped them. It teaches recognition of efforts.
