Happy Holidays π
Dear Rainier Families,
So much excitement in the air as we approach the holiday season. Leading into winter break can be some of the most fun days for kiddos to be at school. We hope your child(ren) can attend each day he or she is not sick. As we enter the fourth month of this school year, it's a nice time to review a few procedures:
Absences, Tardies and Transportation Changes
If you need your child to change their normal transportation or want to excuse your child's absence, we request you use this link for any of the following:
ABSENCES & TARDIES: Please fill out this form if your child will be absent or arriving late. If you do not fill out by 8am, you will receive communication regarding your child's absence. Absences will be reported to the state as unexcused.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGE: Transportation Changes must be completed no later than 1pm on the day the transportation change is needed.
PICK UP EARLY: Please submit the time and reason for picking up your child early from school.
Water Bottles
We ask that each student has their own reusable water bottle to fill with water throughout the day. We have a water bottle refilling station that students can use. Please contact our office if you need support purchasing a water bottle for your child.
Proper Clothing
Oh, the weather outside is frightful, so please remember to dress for warmth and feel delightful! We want to ensure all students are prepared for the elements as we go outside each day. Please let our office know if you need help getting a warm winter coat for your child.
Upcoming Events Youβre Invited to:
December 1 at 1:30pm: Monthly Award Assembly
December 4 at 2:30pm: PTO Meeting in Room 106
December 15 at 7:00pm: Holiday Concert TK-5th Grade and the Band Perform
Winter Break
School is closed beginning December 20th. During winter break there are numerous opportunities to create a stronger bond with your child(ren) and continue to support their academic growth and success. The holidays are good times for storytelling around the dinner table or routines like bedtime reading that build connections between home and school expectations. Children do best with regular schedules, and I encourage you to prepare for their return to school on January 3 by instilling in them an understanding about the importance of being rested and ready to learn.
We hope that all of you and your families have a wonderful, safe holiday season and we will be looking forward to a wonderful New Year.
Cheerfully,
Principal Burslem

π΅π Christmas Program π΅π
Dear CCA Families,
The Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades and Middle School Advanced Bands have been working hard on their music for the upcoming Christmas program on Friday, Dec. 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the CCA gym. This will be especially meaningful as we have not had a Christmas program since 2019!
Some specific information to be aware of:
DRESS CODE
All students want to be dressed nicely to look their best. Please keep in mind that clothing must meet school dress code.
TK - 5th graders will be standing and sitting on risers during the entire program. Because of this, girls will want to...
Make sure that dresses and skirts are long enough to cover the knees when they sit
Wear flat shoes if possible for comfort and stability on the risers.
Please do not wear Santa hats as they can block the faces and absorb the voices of students standing behind.
PLACE & TIME TO REPORT TO SCHOOL
TK - 5th graders will report to their homerooms at 6:45 p.m.
Advanced Band students will report to Room 115 at 6:40 p.m. to briefly warmup and tune.
PLEASE NOTE: Families who arrive early need to supervise their children in the gym and sit together as a family unit until it is time for students to report to their homeroom. For their safety, students may not run around the gym and down the halls unsupervised.
Thank you for supporting your student's participation in music at CCA!
Blessings!

π 4th & 5th Grade Battle of the Books π
Get Ready for the Exciting 2023-2024 Battle of the Books Competition!
Dear 4th and 5th Grade Parents
We hope this newsletter finds you and your children in high spirits and eager for new adventures in the world of literature! We are thrilled to announce the upcoming 2023-2024 Battle of the Books competition, and we have some exciting news to share with you.
This year, we have decided to introduce a fresh twist to the Battle of the Books competition. Instead of finalizing teams at the beginning of the contest, we have compiled a list of 10 captivating titles that they can explore at their own pace. By doing so, we aim to provide more flexibility and allow students to choose books that truly engage their interests.
The Battle of the Books competition is open to students in grades fourth through fifth, and we encourage all interested students to participate. It promises to be an enriching experience where they can discover new authors, immerse themselves in thrilling stories, and engage in vibrant discussions with their peers.
To facilitate these book discussions, we will be holding monthly meetings at the school. During these gatherings, students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, insights, and favorite moments from the books they have read. We believe that these conversations will not only foster a love for reading but also promote critical thinking and teamwork among the participants.
We are excited to announce that the Battle of the Books competition itself will take place in the spring. More detailed information, including specific dates and guidelines, will be shared with you in the coming months. So, please keep an eye out for future updates to ensure that your child doesn't miss out on this wonderful opportunity.
We sincerely hope that your child will embrace this chance to delve into the world of literature, discover new stories, and make lasting memories with their peers. If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to support and guide your child throughout this exciting journey.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a love for reading and learning among our students. Together, let's make the 2023-2024 Battle of the Books competition a resounding success!

π· Extra Support for Band Students πΊ
Greetings CCA Band Families,
Because of very limited band practices that we are able to schedule during the regular school day, Mr. Hunter will be available to help individual band members on their instrument, rhythm mastery, and song mastery from 7:00 β 7:30 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Mr. Hunter is not at CCA on Wednesdays.
The location for extra help will depend on if it is a band day or non-band day:
- On BAND DAYS, we will meet on the STAGE.
- On NON-BAND DAYS, we will meet in the MAKERSPACE building.
Attendance is optional of course, but much can be accomplished during these special practice times. Students are encouraged to attend as often as they like.
~ Mr. Hunter
